The next episode of our travel vlog is Madagascar today, on 28 January 2023. Videos and images captured the last few days of the cyclone Cheneso across different cities and towns across Africa to showcase the weather conditions and activities across Madagascar today and surrounding countries.

Today’s weather forecast indicates that tropical cyclone Cheneso is still moving slowly, more than 100km from the nearest Malagasy coasts (region of Morondava). Cyclone Cheneso hasn’t moved very far in the last two days but remains tropical cyclone strength with winds near 140 km/h sustained. The storm has passed close to the coast of Menabe and is expected to turn southwestwards and move away from land. This remains a dangerous system. Damaging winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, rough seas, mudslides, and flash flooding are all possible risks. Consequently, more heavy rains associated with this system are expected over the Central-Western coasts. The expected 24-hour rainfall total will exceed 100 mm and some places, close to 170 mm until Sunday (29 January 2023). On Friday, the storm began to turn south before turning south-east over the weekend away from inhabited land. An episode of strong winds, accompanied by a dangerous sea state, is underway along the central-western coast (between Maintirano and Morombe via Morondava). This disturbed weather should extend from yesterday to the Malagasy southwest (Tuléar region). This system also impacts the French territories of Juan de Nova and Europa located in the Canal: peripheral influence on Juan de Nova which undergoes numerous stormy passages but a potential hurricane threat on Europa. South African beaches closed due to stormy seas. The KZNSB has been tracking the movement of cyclone Cheneso. Although the cyclone is moving in a south easterly direction we are expecting the swell size to increase. We have therefore taken a precautionary measure to ban bathing at some of the problematic beaches.
Bathing will be banned at the following beaches:
Blythedale
Thompson’s
Clarke Bay
Umdloti
Laguna
Thekweni
Country Club
Battery Beach
Bay of plenty will be banned from tomorrow morning
