Known as the source of life, sunlight is both a blessed and a fearful power. The duality is present at the core of Sun, an acclaimed dance piece bringing back to Macao by Hofesh Shechter, one of the world’s most amazing contemporary choreographers.
Between shadow and light, Sun displays an ambiguous space where beauty and evil sometimes get along, where sharp humour and sarcasm soothe tensions. The piece develops into a series of contrasting, often theatrical sequences as 15 world-class dancers jump and stump into frenetic abandonment to the rhythms of an eclectic mix. From classical to tribal sounds, Shechter’s original score lets Wagner flirt with electro rock and bagpipes. The outcome is a creative burst of raw dance moves joyously conceived as a perfect expression of the company’s unique physicality.
