I do a walk and talk about some of the strange things you might come across in parts of Southeast Asia. I don’t really mean strange foods or customs but strange behavior and beliefs. Keeping in mind – strange to some of us because it may depend on where you come from.
In particular, I talk about a strange phenomenon that happens where hotels or apartment rental agents seem absolutely convinced Westerners will surely love the noisiest possible room, near the most traffic and horns with the least privacy. It baffles me but it happens pretty much every single time.
There are some fun theories around this phenom. Some say hotel/apartment managers get nervous about liabilities so they will always try and place you as close to the Lobby and most busy areas which they believe are least likely to be robbed, mugged or hassled.
Some even believe it’s because they are suspicious and want to make sure the foreigners are in the least private and most overlooked room or apartment and can be monitored more easily.
I have a theory that they believe it’s just really good and foreigners will want to be in the middle of the most action, the hotspot of the place, nearest to the kitchen, elevator, lobby, maintenance rooms.

Here’s a strange thing: the microphone from Canada Amazon that was Made in China does not work with my Chinese phone. Yes, I found that out after making the video lol.

This is a generalized overview over several ‘ASEAN’ nations including #laos #vietnam #thailand #china but various things vary in different places and yet there can be cross-streaks of commonality too.
