The Black Forest is a mountainous region bordering France in south-west Germany. It is known for its dense, evergreen forests and picturesque villages. It is often associated with the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. The Black Forest is famous for its Spas and the cuckoo clocks that have been produced in the region since the 18th century. The largest city in the region is Freiburg, surrounded by vineyards. Here visitors can admire numerous Gothic buildings.
