1) Cathedral of Valencia
Valencia Cathedral sits at the heart of the old town of Valencia – an area called El Carmen. The cathedral itself is an impressive structure that spans a variety of architecture styles, including Baroque, Romanesque, and Gothic.
Santo Caliz Chapel
Inside this chapel, you can find a holy chalice that, according to tradition, was used by Christ during the Last Supper. Documentation and archaeological studies lead us to think that the Holy Grail of Valencia is the one used by Jesus in the Last Supper.
Another of the cathedral’s treasures is the Renaissance Frescoes of the main altar, which were rediscovered ten years ago by removing the Baroque vault that covered them. They represent twelve angels playing musical instruments. It is one of the most important pictorial works of the first Spanish Renaissance.
2) The Oceanographic Museum
Opened on the 14th of February 2003, The Oceanographic Museum in Valencia is the largest marine complex in Europe. Its avant-garde architecture, the arrangement of the various aquariums and their educational vocation make the marine world more accessible to visitors.
3) Lonja de la Seda
La Lonja de la Seda de Valencia is a business hub built in response to the boom in the Valencian silk trade in the late 15th century.
Hall of Columns
The Hall of Columns is the most interesting space in the building. It is a large room containing eight beautiful, spiral columns which divide the room into three longitudinal sections, and another 16 similar columns which are embedded in the walls. The gold letters remind the merchants to trade honestly in order to guarantee a life of wealth and prosperity.
The main entrance to the building is located on the Western Façade at Plaza del Mercado. Behind the current building, there was an earlier one from the 14th century, which was called The Oil Exchange (Llotja de L’oli, in Valencian, or Lonja del Aceite, in Spanish).
4) Valencian Sistine Chapel
The Iglesia de San Nicolás de Bari y San Pedro Mártir is one of the most visited religious buildings in Valencia. Its gem is the spectacular fresco of about 2,000 square metres (21,500 square feet) executed in perfect Baroque style, covering the previously Gothic vaulted ceiling. This is what earned the Church the nickname Valencian Sistine Chapel.
