  1. My understanding is that most of those marinas in NZ require liability insurance. As a solo sailor on a small old boat like yours and US-flagged I have been unable to get insurance, so instead of sailing to NZ I left my boat for cyclone season in Fiji. If you managed to get insurance please let us know the company.

  7. I somehow missed the live, but watching it a couple days later. Just wanted to pop in and say happy birthday! Same as mine. I'll toast a slice of vegan cake to ya. Stay safe out there.

  8. So sorry I missed this. I am Jo from twitter, and have been going through some health probs recently, so haven't been paying as much attention as usual to your travels. I am so PROUD of you James. I have been with you since near the beginning and somehow always knew you would come this far. Who would have thought that a fucked up rudder and your life in jeopardy would have made you in to a youtube SUPERSTAR ! My sincerest congrats Gentleman James Darling Man, if anyone deserves this YOU DO ! XXX❀😁

  9. Gongratz from Brooklyn! Watching since the time you had that talk with Sam H on your boat. Glad you made it that far and didn't return to LA! I was thinking Asia next!? Or the tradewind route? The sky is the limit!

  10. Cheers, mate! From your last vid re: folks having a go at you for not posting videos the same hour………screw 'em!! Sorry to have missed this podcast, but I've followed your vids for years and the nature of what you do and taking the time to share this at all makes me certainly very humble and grateful! I enjoy the vids immensely – thank you – and follow avidly your continuing adventures through your logs on your 'tracker'. My boat is just back in the water for the summer (and next winter) – a humble 1979 Contessa – in Poole on the south coast of Britain after a few months in the yard. 'Boatie' people' all have the same aspirations and dreams and that's to be on the water enjoying either solitude and peace away from the madding crowd or some sense of freedom from the ties of society at whatever level. There is most certainly a kinship among sailors from all walks of life that bonds us and why you can feel that even when you've just met people (boatyards are amazing places for this, eh?). Such a wealth of tales of the high seas, experiences and knowledge! I've said before that after 30 years, you have really inspired myself and so many of us to just take the reins, get an old boat, give her some TLC, learn some knowledge (just done my RYA day skipper) and get out there. The theory is in place and thanks to people like you who give some real and super valuable proper advice from experience, it adds an extra security. Thank you, mate, you have a whole family around the world in your followers and the unique way you present yourself with no 'airs and graces' means you will always have a loyal bunch of supporters!! If you ever find yourself here in our 'neck of the woods', you'll always be welcome! Oh, while you're here…..coppercoat or self-polishing antifoul, conventional stuffing box or 'dripless'?? Loads more questions, too! Haha! Enjoy this for you first, dude. You're the one putting in the effort and risking all,! Fair winds, following seas and take care out there.
