After 10 years, I have returned to the country that I enjoyed THE LEAST in all of my travels… Brunei. It’s a tiny country on Borneo island, sandwiched in between Malaysia and Indonesia, and I was very nervous to go back. Why? Because my last video there was all about how much I hated it, and I was so worried that I would be thrown in jail by the government, or even yelled at by the locals…. But this time around, I went in with fresh eyes and a new perspective, and I really enjoyed it!!!

I met up with a local Bruneian friend from Instagram named Bryant, and he took me under his wing to show me his version of Brunei. And what we discovered will seriously blow your mind!!

  1. Who has been to Brunei? I'd love to hear your thoughts about the country! And if you haven't been, feel free to fire away any questions and I will get back to you!

  2. As a Muslim guy who doesn’t drink or smoke, eats only Halal food, is socially awkward, likes to stay at home, loves mosques and staying at home, hates noisy places, cherishes evenings in with family and friends, prefers traditional values and dislikes social degeneracy, Brunei doesn’t look too bad!
One person’s heaven is another person’s hell, and vice versa. Every nation is strict in some way or the other, depending on who’s toes you step on. There are a lot of things I have to “tolerate” as a foreigner working in the UK, and the risk of cancellation is real even amidst all the supposed freedoms we are told we have. As long as we stay humble and respect each other, we can learn and grow instead of looking down on others.

  3. The fact that your channel hasn't blow up is because of fake narratives. Did it EVER occur to you? Brunei has and is still an Islamic Sultanate and no matter you would try portray it otherwise is gokh to change the fact that THEY DON'T WANT YOU THERE!

  4. hey look, the scammer is going back to a country who doesn't want him there… faking content, scamming your community, asking internet people for wedding gifts, NFT scam…. WHAT IS NEXT????!

  5. I've been to Brunei and I must say it was one of my best trips ever. We had to "hitchhike" our way to the Malaysian border. Throughout my journey, every single local tried to help me get the transportation I needed. A family even offered me a ride to the last 2km before the border. The reason why I went to Brunei is because I had seen your video about it and I wanted to check out if it was really "that bad". My trip proves that it all depends on your personal experiences throughout your journey. I'm glad you gave it a second chance!

  6. You work for 40yrs to have $1m in your retirement, meanwhile some people are putting just $10k in a meme coin for just few months and now they are multimillionaires, all thanks to Mrs Anna , God bless you ma 👏

  7. I miss the ambuyat!

While you’re on the island, do explore Malaysia’s Bornean States of Sabah and Sarawak. And don’t forget the Indonesian Kalimantan.

  8. I had a hunch this was what people in Brunei did if they want a night on the town – it's so obvious from Google Earth.

Sarawak is probably the most liberal state in Malaysia, and Miri is an oil town with strong expat vibes.

  9. Nice to see Drew had a better experience on his return visit to Brunei. I doubt he'll be revisiting Chad anytime soon though. 🙃

  10. Just a thought. Perhaps the guy who kicked you out of the mosque should have greeted you and explained himself. That could be a nice closure to your perception of Brunei, Drew.

  11. Thanks for doing this video Drew! We are all guilty of judging a whole country by the actions of a few bad apples. Lots of respect for doing this.

  12. in 21:34 the street signs are in arabic letters NOT in arabic (big difference). It's like you saying that english, french, italian,… are the same language just because they use the same letters of the alphabet.

  13. As an introvert, I really hate it when people equate quiet with boring. Quiet can be enjoyable too, just like, there are times when you want to enjoy loud bars. I love that Brunei looks clean and peaceful. Though, I wonder if there are gay people there and how they cope. Are there museums or creative outlets for people? You keep mentioning that the streets are dead, but why? Hopefully, in your next visit, you can explore how locals live, what they do for fun, etc… Free healthcare & education, that's awesome
