  1. Hi guys, as a regular to Bali for over 30 years, I don’t have a problem with the beach clubs if it’s what the young ones want (not my cup of tea) but what I hate is that the local warungs on the beach get kicked out to make way for them cos money talks. I reckon the beach clubs are full of pretentious wankers mostly. Not the sort of place I’m gunna be putting my dad-bod on show 😂 Give me Bintangs on the beach, followed by fine dining resto for dinner and in bed by 10pm. 💤

  2. Thank you so much. I wrote in my Diary back on August 23rd 1986. " "I am afraid for Bali and the Balinese. What will happen in 40 or 50 years from now ? The government must stop or limit this commercialisation, or Bali's identity will be drowned." It has happened and I ask myself now, "Was I part of the problem, did I contribute to it. ?

  3. Yes it was a bit difficult to focus on what you were saying as the music was too intrusive…..
The unfortunate consequences of these loud clubs is that they take over the whole enviroment.
And as the noise continues very late into the night, it has become unbearable to the locals and the expats who bought into Beautiful, Peaceful, Laid back vibe of Canggu and are moving to Pererenan.
Hopefully the local Government puts restictions on the size and amount of future monster clubs along the beach…..
For me it makes the whole area unpleasant and would deter me from going anywhere near it.
As you say Love it or Hate it…..its all part of commercialisation out of control.
Such a shame, what was a peaceful, friendly, gentle Village is losing its Heart and Soul.
It must be so hard on the locals to see this and have no choice but accept the changes….🙏🙏🙏

  4. Bali is in evolution of change, everything is being constructed, really odd that the Aussie guy was at Finns and dropped off outside Kuta Clinic dead.Trying to raise money for repatriation to Australia,.Just saying something weird about that.Keep safe.🥰🥰🥰

  5. The best beach club EVER, but only in the night, was the legendary 66 Club at 66 beach. Some nights there were 20.000 people partying until far after sunrise. All in Peace n Love. That was a thing..

  6. Hi Damian, its still Ramadan, how shops and restaurants can still be open during the day before sunset? I am surprised, can you explain this? Thnx!

  7. Now Bali is a huge island, so why is it you only report on the same geographical area? What about North Bali? It’s like you are only hanging out in the densely populated parts. I love your Vlogs by the way

  8. Hi Damien.
Why do you think that there are still many people not wearing helmets, do they think they are untouchable or are they just stupid?
    Keep up the great videos.

  9. Thanks guys, I don't think I'll be coming back to Bali again. I used to go twice a year, but I think this type of development will be the beginning to the end of Bali. Big money from Indonesia and all other countries moving in to corrupt. capitalise,, take advantage of Bali. Most Bali locals still live in 3rd world conditions, no sewage treatment. No drinking water, rubbish everywhere, no services, education, you name it. I'm bloody disgusted.. If you want to go to a third world country there are plenty around the world who could be far more interesting and educational, do their economy more good.

  10. Stubborn farmers are what's needed to keep the few rice paddies that are still there. It seems like they want the Balinese to switch to a diet of bricks instead of rice 😬 Decent pavements by the roads, I agree, they should invest in this first… About what you said that many try but not everyone is successful: yeah it's like a parasite that sucks the life out of a place. Then when it's all full and businesses have ended and no one takes over, they become degraded and empty… And the caravan moves to another part of Bali. Rinse and repeat… I'll stop here before my blood pressure shoots through the roof 😵‍💫Really nice warm colors in that sunset though!!

  11. Something I love about Bali is that even though rice landscapes are fading away, there are still lots of green spots to enjoy, unlike many cities that I have been to. The nature of the businesses that emerge here doesn't bother me at all. They are mostly restaurants and villas that contribute to the island's development as a safe, warm, chill, and cozy travel destination for digital nomads. In a few years, "warungs" will be just like international cafes serving local cuisine food. Bicycles will become safe alternative transportation for tourists, and there will be more strict rules for bike rentals. Sooner or later, families that become attracted by the variety of vacation activities will create opportunities for more international schools. With so many investments going on, Bali IS the future!

  12. Hello Damian & Winny. Heaven 4 young people who are wired 4 dance, it's fun and makes them happy! Hell 4 people stuck in traffic! If there dancing in Ibiza, why not Bali? The sounds of the gamelan drew me to Bali!

  13. Back in the 70’s when I was in Bali there was a place called the PUB and it was the most popular place, however wasn’t on the beach.

There logo was “The Pub Cares For You” and just about everyone had a PUB T-shirt. Then on the Legian/Kuta road there was Doggies Disco which was a big favourite. The main music you would hear blasting all around was Ossibissa – “Sunshine Days” in particular and Peter Frampton all of the Album songs and Bali was just an awesome place to be.

The only luxury hotel back then was the Bali Hyatt at Sanur as all other accommodation was mainly Losmans. In Padma Jalan we stayed at Chandra and The Puspa Sari. The Puspa Sari had three monkeys on chains at the front as you can see in the photos I emailed to you.
    Keep up the good work!👍

  14. No more greenies anymore in that "village" … the development is goin crazy without the infrastructure balancing.. the street looks not good.. maybe local people will happy becoz, yeahhhh the economy is alive.. but it is not a sustainable one, BEWARE.. seems the government has NO a well planned for urban planning development of future bali at all.. at the end, everything would be expensive , for the land especially, THIS would be a boomerang for locals.. locals can not enjoy their island anymore.. there would be nothing left for the next generation.. So SAD.. i hope this video could awake the government open their eyes and mind, not becoz of money money money, they sacrifice everything..

  15. Hi Damien and Winny. Being on the beach with loud music thumping in the background not my idea of a tranquil beach setting. The sounds of nature is what I prefer, but each to their own. Have a great day guys.

  16. Haha, never been a big fan of sports bars or beach clubs. We prefer to find a more chilled out bar by the beach. Some of the less known places near LaPlancha and along Legian/Seminyak are great. Funnily enough, my 25 and 27yo prefer them too. Might have something to do with the cost! I think 😁 But for all time fave beach vibes, it has to be Jungutbatu beach on Nusa Lembongan.

  17. I guess I'm old school and like the sports bars and the restaurants but not the beach clubs were everyone's a poser. 😎😎😎🙏🙏🙏

  18. Finns didn't start. They were quite late already (even though, still early). Ku de ta, and potatohead were the first ones; after La Plancha and other literal 'beach bars'

  19. Lots of comments are about places in the south. Went north and stayed at Lovina for a couple of nights went to a Rasta bar on the beach playing Bob Marley music. 20 people there great food, connected with the locals had a ball. 15 years ago though.
