*Penang to Koh Lanta by Ferry and Speedboat*

What is the best way to get from Penang, Malaysia to the Thai Islands in the Andaman Sea (like Koh Lanta, Koh Lipe, Phuket, or Ko Phi Phi)?

Don’t make the same mistakes we made!

Transportation from Malaysia to Thailand was difficult to navigate. Some pre-Covid ferry services (Penang to Langkawi) are still not running as before, especially in Malaysia.

This is the itinerary we followed (and what we would suggest if you’re adventure-seeking and have time to see many beautiful islands):
Day 1:
Taxi- Penang to Kuala Kedah (1.5 hours)
Ferry- Kuala Kedah to Langkawi (1.5 hours)
If you have time we suggest staying and enjoying Langkawi (we only planned 1 night and wished we had stayed longer).

Day 2:
Ferry- Langkawi to Koh Lipe, Thailand
Clear customs in Koh Lipe
(Koh Lipe looked like a beautiful place to visit…we’re definitely adding it to our list for a future trip)
Ferry- Koh Lipe to Koh Lanta, Thailand

Other route suggestions:
Bus- Penang to Krabi (8 hour bus); then ferry or taxi to Koh Lanta (about 1 hour)

Fly- Penang to Kuala Lumpur, then connect to Krabi. Take a taxi or Ferry to Koh Lanta. (Total time and price is about the same as taking the ferry).

There were lots of options for taxis once we arrived in Langkawi and Koh Lanta!
