Singapore is known as the worlds most expensive city. For travelers on a budget that doesn’t work so most just skip it. That’s a shame because there is actually a ton of awesome things to do in Singapore for free. Today I show you the 7 best things I found to do for free in Singapore.

Number 1: Haw Par Villa
Aw Boon Haw and brother Par the Chinese founders of Tiger Balm moved to Singapore in 1926. From 1937 to 1954 they built over 1000 statues at Haw Par Villa to teach traditional Chinese values. In the 1950s and 60’s it was super popular, today is it a bit rundown but is a must visit. Here is a full tour of Haw Par Villa:

Number 2: Merlion Statue
The Merlion is the mascot and national personification of Singapore and was opened in 1972. The half lion half fish statue shoots water out of its mouth and is packed with tourists but you have to go.
Here is how to get to the Merlion park:

Number 3: Singapore Botanic Gardens
Opened in 1859 to help perfect rubber tree growth and extraction. When the need for rubber car tires exploded in the early 1900’s Singapore was ready and benefitted greatly. The gardens cover 200 acres with over 10000 species of plants.

Number 4: Forest walk in the southern ridges
The forest walk is an elevated sidewalk that connects beautiful parks throughout the city. Walking right at treeline above forests in the city is a surreal experience and a fun way to be in nature in the city.
Here’s how to get to the forest walk:

Number 5: Sentosa Beach
Sentosa is crowded and touristy but if you need a beach getaway while in Singapore it’s worth checking out. The sand is fake brought in so it is very fine and the water is clean. The best part is the bird encounters at 2, 3, 4 and 5pm Here is the info:

Number 6: Gardens by the Bay
The iconic garden of Singapore! Enjoy walking around this free garden or pay to go to the tops of the super trees or into the cloud forest to see an indoor waterfall. Like 2 free things in one because you have to go once during the day and once at night to see the super trees all lit up.
Here’s how to get to Gardens by the Bay:

Number 7: Arab Street
Smazing street art and architecture and a super fun swing. Though it is admittedly dangerous so be careful.
Here’s where the swing is!
