  1. That's all I need to sleep, it would be nice with a curtain.
OTOH, you could fly for an hour for the same price too.
That is what trains compete with, 10h with the possibility to sleep, or 1h without the need to sleep.

  2. These seats were developed for the Queenslander running between Brisbane and Cairns however the ones here have an airline style entertainment screen in the headrest of the seat infront. Seems to be missing here??

  3. When you walled through the sleeper carriage, it appears that almost every sleeper room has a "yellow" fold-out chair out in the hallway…? Is that odd or typical?

Good transition from opening a door INTO the cafe carriage which wasn't even the next carriage.

  4. This is a fascinating new option that we would consider. We took the 8 am Bergensbanen train from Oslo to Bergen this past December, sitting in Pluss, and it was a truly amazing journey. We had also planned to take the night train back to Oslo two weeks later in a regular sleeper car (we had a roundtrip Hurtigruten cruise from Bergen in between the train rides) in order to fly back to US from Oslo. But we were ultimately able to get a good air itinerary out of Bergen, so never got to take the night train. Next time…

  5. A small correction. At 7:45 you said the sun never sets at the height of summer. This is not true in this part of Norway. You have to go at least as far north as Bodø to get the midnight sun.
This far south you get a few hours with darkness at night

  6. Nothing unique about it. China's latest high speed trains use similar business class seats.

  7. Why do foreigners think that they can speak better learned English, by speaking it FASTER ? Fer gooness sake, slow down !!! English speakers need to understand not only your WORDS, but also your PRONUNCIATION. Who are you trying to impress with your garbled quick-fire English speech ?

  8. I find a business-class lie-flat seat to be incredibly comfortable for a long flight. This seems like a great option.

  9. ticket office featuring very limited hours? 6:4519:15 and 7:30-16 on the weekend? You better not visit Germany if you think those are limited hours 😀 There isn't even one day with a closure.

  10. I would happily go for the standard seat. I know I never sleep on overnight trains or buses so I don't even try. I am way too nosey. I like to see and hear everything that's going on around me on see anything there is to see out of the window. So rather than spending money on sleeping facilities that I know I won't need or be able to use would be a waste. I have regularly sat in standard seating overnight from London to Glasgow and love it.

  11. This is an excellent "middle ground" between "cattle class" (which is still light years ahead of the same in planes) and proper sleeper cabin.

  12. While overnight trains are nice if Europe really wanted to make a big impact it could focus on getting trucks off the road – I might use a train like this once or twice in my life but I see 100s of trucks on the road daily!

  13. Nice of the Norwegians to come up with this innovative idea.

I think it may prove even more fitting further South, on the (rather time-consumingl stretch from Southern Sweden through Denmark to Hamburg and on, where the cities lie closer than in Norway.

    But time will tell.

  14. Why would anyone but a regular user travel this line at night! It's one of the most beautiful lines in the world so a complete waste at night time!

  15. this is what the Caledonian sleeper should swap out all standard seats for as anyone who has even wandered threw the standard class willl tail its never more than 1/4 full

  16. Trains are so bad, try to go to Oslo – Trondheim, Trondheim – Bodø. Quality is not good, and cant cross up to Troms and Finnmark area. Norway are just as big as Japan and similiar landscape. We should get high speed trains to Norway, get some of those that did plan the trainroad to Sinkansen. Norway have money to make such here

  17. I dont get why people like slow trains over planes, yes planes are less eco friendly but that will change as electric normal and vtol aircraft get more range over time. Faster and similiar price (in europe) which are only 2 factors i consider.

  18. reclining seats for overnight travel are not a Norwegian invention. The City Night Line had them, to name one, called Sleeperette, and so did VIA rail (way more comfy than the former), called Dayniter
