I know I know I know. As a San Diego based airline reviewer, making a video about Lufthansa’s A350-900 service from SAN to MUC should’ve happened a long time ago. I sincerely apologize for the delay.
So yeah – this is a full review of Lufthansa flight number 467 (in premium economy). In general, the seat was ok and the food decent. It wasn’t the best long haul premium economy experience I’ve ever had, but it’s hard not to be picky when flying nonstop to Europe from San Diego.
I had seat number 15D, the aircraft registration was D-AIXH, and the total flying time was 10 hours and 31 minutes.

I flew Lufthansa Eco Premium on an A380 LAX-FRA and it was great!!, Pricey but Great. I hope the A350s are as comfy as the A380.
Air france is doing a couple of trial flights out of San Diego in December!
Hey Scott great video! Not sure if you’ve heard but Air France is coming to SD for a day or two in December, it would be pretty sick if you could do a review of that special flight!
Now you're gonna have to try the new Air France flight to CDG in the winter
So stoked the flight was full
Lufthansa is one star alliance airline that I try to avoid as much as possible. I can even tolerate United but not Lufthansa.
The punctunality of german public transport is notoriously bad, haha. Their planes may be an exception but their trains are unreliable to the point of being unusable.
11:08 Apparently you say 'It's scary' exactly like I say 'hey siri'.
for God's sake and how do they pass that tray over your head hehehe .. lack of common sense
Great to see Lufthansa back at San Diego!🙌 brilliant review as always
Swiss has that mentioned new premium eco seat already installed on all of their 777s. My sister flew both, the new seat and the old one. she preferred the old one due to the way they recline.
Great to see you back doing a long haul review. I was looking at LHR to SAN with BA a few weeks back, Damn it shocked me!!!!
why is there first class check in if no first on Lufthansa a350
I think those gates at the far end of T2 are where all the international flights arrive and depart out of. And yeah, it’s a ghost town there.
Great video! What flight app tracker are you using. It shows your returned flight also?
Good review but I wouldn't pay more than about 150 USD premium for that cabin.
Having flown Lufthansa in April, I thought the flights were great except for the extremely outdated IFE and bad business-class seats, and the FA's on our flights were great.
How unfortunate this flight wasn't the the ex-PAL A350s. I guess it's at least a decent seat. Great to see SAN getting some more European flights. Maybe an LCC like we see at LAX like French Bee or Norse Atlantic will see opportunities there.
You’re sitting in a chair, in the sky…eating a hot meal and watching movies. Quit yer bitching😂
United Gold status is the equivalent to star alliance gold which is always nice to have.
I'm thinking maybe virgin atlantic comes to SAN to compete with BA since they are now part of skyteam
SANspotter was nearly KO’d with a WWE-esque move, a tray to the head
Absolutely fantastic video Scott!😸
You have United gold status (Star Alliance gold), flying on an international itinerary and could not access the lounge?
Don’t you get access to the United Club lounge above the food court with a Star Alliance ticket and Gold status on a Star Alliance airline?
The real question here is how the heck did you survive a 10-hour flight without the IFE? If l see another economy slop meal that looks like a microwave TV dinner, l think l might throw up. 😫
3:18 "punctual" is not exactly the word I'd use to describe our public transport these days… international connections may be punctual, but with anything longer distance that's bound to road or rail you'll be lucky to arrive within an hour or two of the intended schedule…
If you have United gold you could of used the United club in SAN.
I now pretty much only fly Premium Economy products on long-haul. I can't afford business cash tickets and can't take economy anymore, so a good middle ground. Took some Japan Airlines PE flights recently and for me these are #1 premium economy products (both hard and soft product, i.e. service, are amazing). Flying back Japan Arline's LHR-HND soon, can't wait.
JAL PE product gives you proper lounge access (I am not aware of any other Arline's PE product that gives proper lounge access). And the design of JAL PE seats is such that they slide when reclining, hence not reducing the space of person behind (Why no other PE product does it this way?)
Thank you for highlighting the issues I’ve been noticing with premium economy across all airlines. In alot of ways your paying more for basically standard economy.
I also flew SAN to MUC in Lufthansa Premium Economy, but in May 2022. I was in the very front of PE on the left side. Overall, I was very happy with my flight experience.
If you’re flying on a Star Alliance carrier, you can access the United Club with a day pass or United Club Membership. Even if you’re flying in regular Economy.
Fantastic video again! I decided on Virgin Upper on the A350 instead of premium on the Lufty 748. Right choice?
I love this, you rarely see Premium economy reviews
I was about to comment on punctuality, for that you'll find it in Switzerland or the Netherlands.
I think Cathay Pacific premium economy gets their own bathroom on the 777!
I Like The Product Premium Economy,I Love The A350.Great Trip Report
That broccoli is gross looking. Glad you have direct German flights from San Diego.
I loved the report, good work! I only disagree about the German punctuality in Lufthansa: I must say that maybe 70% of the flights I’ve taken with them have been delayed considerably. Frankfurt’s airport operations are a HUGE mess to be added to air traffic restrictions and the night operational curfew. This leads to LH having one of the worse punctuality rates within Europe. Also Deutsche Bahn is world famous for being as unpunctual as it can get. Consider yourself lucky.
Honestly, I still like the previous Lufthansa livery
punctuality in German transport. Our ICE from FRA to Stuttgart was 2 hours late and maxed at 100KPH. So, the 1 hour trip turned into 4 hours.
You could have used the United Club as a UA Star Gold on an international itinerary.
Tu-134
I love their premium economy seating. Yeah I wish I could do business class, but the premium economy is good. Flew to Munich last year and had no issues with the space or service. The only pain was they were still requiring mask for the whole trip so that kind of sucked. I will be traveling back to Germany next year and I'm already on the lookout for a good deal, fingers crossed.
Do you want them to just teleport the food to the middle seat?
If you have UA gold and your flying any other Star alliance airline (then UA) you get lounge access to the UA club.
As a fellow San Diegan with German origins I enjoyed your review. I used to be a loyal LH customer, but unfortunately they really got worse over the last few years, I'll be using up my last LH miles later this year for this route in their outdated C product, then I have two trips on BA to LHR in their Premium Economy coming up, let's see how they compare to LH. Not a big fan of BA either, but at least we have these two nonstop routes to Europe… I agree, business tickets are outrageously expensive right now, looks like these days Premium Economy tickets cost as much as I sometimes paid for Business before the pandemic.
Remember when Lufthansa won the award of 5 star Airline? Their current state will tell you otherwise.
