Explore Falkland Islands | Best Place in the World to see Penguins

Welcome to my channel and this week’s video is about Explore Falkland Islands, Best Place in the World to see Penguins.

The Falkland Islands are a popular addition to many Antarctic voyages, but they’re well worth seeing on their own for their spectacular penguin, seal and albatross populations.
Surrounded by the South Atlantic, the islands lie 490km east of Patagonia. Two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland. Alternately settled and claimed by France, Spain, Britain and Argentina, the Falklands (known as the Islas Malvinas in Argentina) have been an overseas territory of the UK since 1833, a status the Argentines have fought and still contest.

About 60% of Falklanders are native born, some tracing their ancestry back six or more generations. Today more than 80% of the 2900 Falklanders (sometimes called ‘Kelpers’) live in Stanley, and about 1200 British military live at Mt Pleasant base. The rest of the islanders live in ‘Camp,’ the name given to all of the Falklands outside Stanley.

In this Falkland Islands Travel Vlog 2020, I will explain you about How to Travel to Falkland Islands? Tips for Falkland Islands travel budget, Falkland Islands top attractions, Things to see and do in Falkland Islands. Best places to visit in Falkland Islands.

Things to See and Do in Falkland Islands and Best Places to visit in Falkland Islands:

• Wander the Capital of Stanley
• Visit a Massive Albatross Colony at Steeple Jason: More than 70% of the world’s population of black-browed albatrosses nest and breed in the Falkland Islands, and the largest of those colonies can be found at a place called Steeple Jason.
• Tour a Battlefield of Falkland War: The rocky, mountainous terrain just outside of the capital was the stage for several battles between the British and Argentine armies.
• Take a Hike to Carcass Island
• Go Wildlife Spotting at Sea Lion Island
• Visit Volunteer Point: has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA). Birds for which the site is of conservation significance include Falkland steamer ducks (75 breeding pairs), ruddy-headed geese (100 pairs), gentoo penguins (100 pairs), Magellanic penguins (2000 pairs) and white-bridled finches.
Volunteer Point is notable for having about 150 pairs of king penguins breed here, at the most northerly part of their range. King penguins were once nearly extinct in the Falklands, and Volunteer Point contains most of the Falkland population. There are also southern elephant seals.

Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas):

The Falkland Islands (/ˈfɔːlklənd/; Spanish: Islas Malvinas, pronounced [ˈislas malˈβinas]) is an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean on the Patagonian Shelf. The principal islands are about 300 miles (483 kilometres) east of South America’s southern Patagonian coast.
As a British overseas territory, the Falklands have internal self-governance, and the United Kingdom takes responsibility for their defence and foreign affairs. The Falkland Islands’ capital is Stanley on East Falkland.
