The Chungjeong Apartment is the first and oldest apartment building in existence in Korea being completed in 1937 during the Japanese occupation of Korea.
Originally called the Toyota apartment after the architect and owner Toyota Danao, the apartment was the first to incorporate a central boiler system with open corridors that faced a central atrium.
This archetype of residential building was the prevailing design style in Japan and was incorporated here as well.
Although this building has not been designated a national landmark or a preservation landmark, it stands in the middle of downtown Seoul as a relic that dates before the Korean War and even World War 2.
