On 25 June 2016, I travelled to Germany in Europe.

The first stop in Germany is Munich. Munich is a very famous place in Germany. There are many scenic spots in it. Let me tell you one that I have been to! That is Notre Dame Church. Notre Dame Church is located near the Munich railway station. It is a Catholic Church. Because Russia believes in Catholicism, this architectural style of the dome has been preserved. When we used to look at it, there was a tower under maintenance, so we can only see one “onion head”. The new city hall is located on the north side of Marian square.

On 1 July 2016, I travelled to the next stop in Germany and that is Dresden. Dresden is a famous historical city in Germany. The Elbe river divides the whole city into two parts, with numerous historic sites and beautiful scenery. Therefore, it is called “World Architecture Museum” and “delorenza on the Elbe River”. In 1749, when Winckelmann, a German art historian and aesthetician, came to Dresden, he said excitedly, “Whoever has not seen Dresden has not seen beauty.”

In Dresden, I have been to the first scenic spot and that is Zwinger Palace. This was built in 1709-1732 and is considered to be a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. It is the symbol of Dresden. It used to be the place where emperors and nobles held banquets and celebrations. The palace is gorgeous and the sculpture is exquisite. We can imagine how the wedding ceremony between Frederick, the descendant of Augustus, and the princess of Habsburg in Austria would be held here.

The second scenic spot that I have been to in Dresden is Dresden Saxon State Opera House. It used to be the place where many famous composers such as Strauss and Wagner performed. In the Second World War, the buildings were bombed into ruins, and now they are restored and rebuilt as they were. Surprisingly, these buildings have been restored perfectly. All the old materials can be used. The buildings and sculptures still have the traces of years of polishing. Some places are suffused with old colors. I really admire the German level of repairing the old as the old.

The last scenic spot is The Cathedral of Notre Dame. This was designed by Gaetano Chiaviri, an Italian architect. It was built in the middle of the 18th century with beautiful interior decoration. The Cathedral of Notre Dame was destroyed in that bombing and then was rebuilt 60 years later and opened to the public on 30 October 2005. Part of the cost of construction comes from international donations. Among them, donations from the UK are the largest. In this special way, the British express their apologies to the people of Dresden.

Dresden belongs to the former East Germany. It was the most developed city in East Germany. But even so, I still feel that the gap between eastern and western Germany, that is, between eastern and western Germany, is huge. As soon as I entered Dresden, I felt a sense of deja vu: a lot of residential buildings, flat roof architectural design with no characteristics, slightly messy streets, and traces of Soviet history. In a trance, I feel like returning to Sydney.

It is not only the difference of urban style, but also the imbalance of economic development. After the reunification of Germany and Germany, a large number of East Germans went to West Germany because of the slow economic development in the East. The population of the former East German area has declined sharply, and many buildings have been left vacant, so the government has to pay to demolish them. In order to narrow the gap between the East and the west, the German government has taken many measures, including collecting special taxes to support the construction of East Germany and encouraging large consortium to invest in the East, but the effect is not obvious. Moreover, this practice of demolishing the west wall and repairing the east wall has also caused dissatisfaction among the people in the West. They complain that the East Germans have reduced their living standards and become a burden to the country. So, although Germany is unified, the differences between the East and the west, especially the psychological gap, can not be eliminated overnight. Maybe, there is a long way to go.

On 4 July 2016, I travelled to the final city and that is Berlin. Before coming to Berlin, I have such good feelings for this city. After entering this seemingly archaic city, this city has a unique charm. I decided not to enter the Berlin Cathedral, but to enjoy its magnificence and splendour. Then I went to the most popular Museum and that is Pergamon Museum. The restored marble gate and all kinds of culture and martial arts collected from ancient West Asia will make you sigh the charm of history.

I must say that this was a pleasant experience to travel to Germany in Europe for the first time.
