Welcome to the Accursed Mountains in northern Albania! These mountains, also called the Albanian Alps, might have an ominous name, but they’re actually one of the country’s most picturesque locations.

In this documentary, I’m taking you to three breathtaking locations in northern Albania, beginning with the city of Shkoder, also known as the gateway to the Albanian Alps. This city, located on Lake Shkoder, is one of the most ancient cities in the Balkans and dates back to early antiquity, when it was home to two Illyrian tribes. I’m taking to to the city’s famous Rozafa Castle, the 18th-century Mesi Bridge, and even to the shores of Lake Shkoder to try some incredible freshwater fish.
 
Then, we’re heading off to Theth, a remote alpine village surrounded by towering mountains. We’re going to explore this village’s fascinating history, natural wonders, and hearty and flavorful cuisine.
 
And finally, we’re finishing up in Valbona, a picturesque mountain resort town that’s known around the globe for its world-class hiking and stunning vistas. Along the way, we’re going to meet friendly locals and learn about the way of life in Albania’s northernmost reaches.
