Welcome to our COMPLETE GUIDE to Viking Cruises river Longships. The Viking Longship fleet is the largest river cruise fleet in the world and all 55 of these beauties are virtually identical so we thought we’d do a video that covered every single one of them. this video covers:
What is a Longship?
What’s it like inside?
What’s the accommodation like?
What’s the food like?
If you’re considering a Viking river cruise, then THIS video will definitely be worth a watch to familiarise yourself with what to expect and what NOT to expect.

Great video! Thanks!
I love your detailed videos! I did have an idea about what that sliding part of the bedside tables could be for: CPAP Machines. Many people are now traveling with them and they take up space that is needed for other items.
Wonderful video as always, thank you. You are so right to be proud of this one. You do excellent work and make me want to book a cruise right away. Haven’t done a river cruise yet, hopefully next year. What river and time of year would you recommend for our first?
Wonderful video Rich! Brought back great memories of my 2 Viking river cruises, one on the Rhine and one on the Douro. If your looking for a small pool there is one on the Douro ships. The downside is the terrace at the front is only seating, no dining there, missed that! BUT both trips were outstanding!!
A super video that encapsulates all that is good about Viking river cruises. We did a “duck view” room late March and was pleasantly surprised when our welcome pack didn’t include a pair of flippers and snorkel! OTBC! 🙏
Congratulations on a beautifully done video. It brings back fond memories of our trip from Amsterdam to Budapest last September in 327. One thing we found was that the WiFi was much better in the forward cabins than further aft. We had good friends in 303 who had excellent signal and TV streaming while we had very spotty coverage.
Love your videos…so well done and informative. Would be helpful if you would mention if you have any conflicts (ie free cruise, paid by Viking, etc). Thanks again.
Just got back from a Viking river cruise. We found it to be very enjoyable. Food was fantastic and you’re absolutely correct about the toilet paper lol.
No gym. Hmmmm.
135 sq ft is tight. The smallest room we have had was on AMA river cruises at 170 sq ft.
they served aquavit after our dinner…not a fan, but did keep us warm on the rhine last november
Beautifully produced video. I'm taking my first VRC soon. Since I do not have an adventurous palate at all, I'm glad to see the "always available classics" dining option. If that's not available on the "themed dinner" nights, I'll be sure to have a large lunch. Now I'm off to binge watch more of your videos.
No gym is a deal-breaker for me. Also, I want a pool and two-person tables in the restaurant. Amawaterways has all three so I've only so far river-cruised with them. But is Viking much cheaper? One can always forgo services for savings.
can't wait to travel on one!
Loved your video. I'm trying to persuade my husband to do a Viking river cruise and your video certainly helped my cause!
Ice dispensers tells you Viking are aiming at Americans. I've been on 5 other lines' river ships and none have ice dispensers.
I am a big fan of Viking Ocean and have sailed with them twice with a third booked. But I really don't like the Viking longships. They cram far more people onto them than most river cruises, losing bicycles and gyms and sometimes a rear bar and making the cabins very tight (apart from the very small number of big cabins). Also the lounge on other ships can get pretty full with 160 passengers, I dread to think what 190 is like. There is no lower sundeck so the entire top deck will be shut on some sailings while going under bridges. With a lower sundeck the decks in the front and back half of the ships don't align, you get 4 half flight stairs in the middle (which is nicer), and crucially while the upper sundeck is closed the lower one stays open provided you stay sat down when the ship is going under low bridges. I've sat here for hours on cruises, but it doesn't exist on Viking. I think the front of the longships looks really ugly too, more like a barge than a ship. Finally I believe the draft requirement of the longships is deeper than most other river ships, so they're some of the first to stop sailing or do ship swaps in low water (which is going to happen more often with climate change).
Thank! Great commercial 😂
My family and I had recently took a trip with Viking across the Rhine River on the Viking Einar and it was a great experience. I definitely recommend Viking and those longships to anyone who's interested in traveling onboard a river cruise.
