Most cruisers take closed loop cruises. This means that you leave from one home port and return to the same port. These are the most common types of cruises and are fantastic! But what if you would like to try something different? Maybe an itinerary that you cannot find sailing from and returning to the same port?

There are several different types of repositioning cruises:
1. Repositioning for the season – many cruise lines move ships to Alaska or Europe in spring for the summer season and back to warmer waters in the fall.
2. Transatlantic or Transpacific cruises
3. Panama Canal cruises – moving from one coast to the other
4. One-time change of home port – cruise ships will get moved to different permanent home ports and there are unique one-time sailings for these

Variety is the spice of life, and these types of cruises can give you these different or even unique experiences.

We recently sailed on Norwegian Jewel for a repositioning from Mexican Riviera itineraries to Alaskan itineraries. So our sailing went up the west coast and we were able to stop in ports that are not traditional cruise ports like Santa Barabara, CA and Astoria, OR. We also had port days in Seattle, WA and Ketchikan, AK. It was a fabulous itinerary!

  1. We’re cruising from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale in November. Flying to Spain and spending a week, then sailing home. Love sea days, so looking forward to the experience. AND great value too (Viking)

  2. I did the 24 day repositioning Transpacific cruise from Seattle to Sydney, Australia, last year on the Carnival Splendor as a solo cruiser. It was fantastic. Look forward to doing it again. Certainly recommend it. I'm an Aussie, so I flew Sydney to Seattle then cruised home via Hawaii and Fiji. Met amazing fellow cruisers.

  3. I am using a travel agent for the first time with Alisa and her associate Lori. They have gone so far above and beyond for me, working with the cruise line and getting me way more than I ever could have imagined that I will NEVER not use them, again! I'm doing a Transatlantic on Princess in November and I absolutely cannot wait!

  4. QUESTION: did you have a flight problem due to NCL doing the booking? We have one coming up that 2nd guest is free airfare and are concerned that NCL will book the cheapest flight available without regard to layover times, etc. Did you have that experience?

  5. My husband and I have done several West Coast repositioning cruises both at the beginning and end of the Alaska cruise season. We love having the option for a quick 3-5 day getaway, and being from Seattle, it's really convenient. We generally take the train up to Vancouver, sail down to one of the California ports (LA, SF, or SD), and then fly home. So much fun!

  6. When you went Halibut fishing in Alaska what do you do with the fish when flying home? Dumb question? Sorry I don’t fish can you tell? 🤣
We’re going to do a repositioning cruise next year, we already have a cruise booked for this year.

Thank you for all the information!
    You guys are great fun!
Looking forward to working with you on our next cruise 👏🏻
Love watching your channel from Oregon🌲

  7. I always try to find these. The ones that I have found there is no solo supplement typically which is a plus for me. I do have nothing booked this fall/winter 🤔🤔🤔

  8. We are going on a repositioning cruise in September from Tampa Florida to Boston via the Southern Caribbean. Can't wait! Great video as always. Your upbeat attitude is inspiring!

  9. I am glad you had fun in our towns here on the coast of California I live near all of them and have been there and done that. I probably would not have done that one. Most of them are the ricy people area. If you ever do come back to California you need to go to Morrow Bay ( not a cruse area) Pismo Beach and Solvang it is a Swedish town it is a wonder.

  10. Prices are great and unique itineraries. Of course Vancouver to Whittier is not a reposition but awesome love ❤️ these. Look at Princess pacific wine coast reposition not a big cruise excursions but winery and breweries AWESOME

  11. I'm going to Alaska at the end of the season again. I saw your cruise to late. I did Celebrity once and did some of the same ports in 2014. Loved the Astoria column and we could see 5 mtns

Question: How much time did you have in Ketchican? My cruise in Sept we only have 4 or 5 hrs in Ketchikan.

  12. I did a Transpacific cruise in 2019 from Vancouver BC to Sydney Australia for a total of 35 days on Ruby Princess as a solo cruiser. The ports were amazing and not to intensive with sea days scattered throughout the cruise. We also visited New Zealand, Hawaii, Tahiti and American Samoa. I would recommend this cruise to anyone who has the time. The return flights to the US and Australia (depending on your direction of travel) can be as much as 21hrs but is well worth it.

  13. In your opinion. What do you think would be better on a Panama cancel cruise. Going out of Miami to Los Angeles or Los Angeles to Miami. We live in the southeast.

  14. Love repositioning cruises. As an Aussie, we regularly do Asia or US to Australia (or vice versa) cruises. Next one for us is in October, Hawaii to Brisbane on Quantum of the Seas. The islands of the Pacific are stunning.

  15. Living in Australia we often do one way voyages our last one was Singapore to Sydney on Ovation of the Seas being so far away from other countries we also have sailed to Southamption beats a 22hr flight

  16. Waste of time watching this woman talk about her trips but offers very little actual information like cost and how to book. Goonies really. Thanks for nothing lady.

  17. In 2015 we did a repositioning cruise from New Jersey to Galveston. It is stillmour best cruise yet. 13 night cruise on Liberty of the Seas. San Juan, St Thomas, St Maarten, Curacao and Cayman. Great islands. We flew into New Jersay a couple of days early to spend time in New York. We live near Galveston so it was fun to sail back home. We love repositioning cruises.

  18. Fantastic video! So informative! We definitely want to do a repositioning cruise some day. BTW, we are really liking Sarah Mitchell from your travel agency team. She is awesome!
