The Bernina Railway was built between 1906-1910. It links the resort of St. Moritz in Switzerland with the town of Tirano in Italy. With the highest elevation of 2,253 m, it is the highest railway crossing in Europe and one of the steepest in the World. On the journey, the highest mountain in the Eastern Alps (Piz Bernina, 4,048 m) and majestic glaciers can be seen.
Bernina line was declared a World Heritage Site in 2008.
In 2011, it was the first rail line in the world to be photographed and put on Google Street View.
