  1. please don't promote the digital nomad lifestyle without considering how detrimental foreigners from developed countries can be to local economies in other countries, especially less developed ones. There's currently a massive housing shortage in Portugal being exasperated by foreigners buying houses there + digital nomads willing to pay higher rents than any local can possibly afford. Wired (as well as tons of other news orgs) covered it in an article called "Welcome to Digital Nomadland"

  2. A couple of additional tidbits. If you are a US citizen you MUST always taxes to the US. You may be able to skip the US taxes ONLY if the remote country has tax treaty AND you are paying more in that country. Also holding a foreign bank account requires extra paper work to the US gov't. It is pretty difficult to live in a remote country with out having a foreign bank account. The only way around this is if you renounce your US citizenship, which will make it VERY VERY VERY difficult to ever go to the US again, and may be impossible. The last point living in a foreign country is not as fun as it seems on social media. I have lived in several countries – lots of them are great for vacations, but not a places to live.

  3. These are all great destinations! Although I'm only going for a week and a half, I'll be visiting Georgia this September! I've heard so many great things about Georgia, and I'm really looking forward to going over there. I may also stop in Istanbul on the way since they aren't too far away.
