#Sarlat-la-Canéda – an old town of art and history, located in #Aquitaine, in the south-west of #France, the capital of the historical region of Black Perigord.
Historically, this place was inhabited even at the Carolingian. Sarlat became a prosperous city at the end of the VIII century, during the reign of Pepin the Short and Charlemagne, when the Benedictine monks founded their monastery here. The heyday of the city came in the 14th century, when its name constantly appeared in the chronicles of the Hundred Years War.
Later, Sarlat-la-Canéda lost his privileges, finally became impoverished, falling into lethargy, but nevertheless, he could survive so what was between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
The entire second half of the 20th century, Sarlat-la-Canéda was so carefully restored that today it is considered one of the most attractive for tourists in the entire province. Today in the city you can admire old houses, such as they were many years ago, with their stone roofs and lively streets awakened from a lethargic dream.
