I’ve given up the booze. Yes, after all these years. I’ve finally done it. But what about when I next travel? Is it possible to have a good time without the booze?

You look good. Head = half size
Answer: Maybe, but probably. Be careful. Love your idea. I would plan your trip ruthlessly & try to stick to it. It you start to feel like ya need a drink, have something to replace that drink. Like pussy, read a book, mediate or anything to take your mind off it. If you get really can't stand it, start praying which is what I used to do. Peace & love , Sir. Awesome.
I imagine it gets to the point it stops being fun and the health warnings start kicking in. Good for you, Eddie. The benefits are obviously noticeable..
Well done Ed, you look really well. They say abstinence is easier than moderation so your caution and hesitancy about travel at this time is wise.
Eddie. You look fantastic since you gave up alcohol. Just keep taking it a day at a time. I myself have been travelling to the Philippines for 33 years. I have never teased any alcohol at all in all my time visiting there or anywhere else. I used to have a problem with the dreaded drink. Keep it up mate
I never drink in UK but a freezing cold beer on a boiling hot afternoon is heavenly
Stay off the beer at home and have a blow out on your holidays.
Just save it for holidays or don't bother IMO. Walking around aimlessly in the same sois is boring af. The girls want too much and the beers aren't even cheap(besides 7 eleven). Better off to do the legwork online these days and find a keeper. Eating that greasy falang food is just as bad.
Well done Edward you did the best thing in your life some comments saying the life is short, but I think life much more shorter driving too much alcohol my past was similar to yours Edy I was drinking for 30 years then suddenly I gave up alcohol for 20 years then Covid 19 happened I was stranded in Bali as everything was close even beaches I was bored so I started drinking alcohol again from angur merah to arak local made arak very strong and now I'm on and off alcohol sometimes I stop drinking alcohol for week or so then back to it again and again the thing is if you are pensioner you get bored doing nothing your mind is on driving open the fridge get cold beer or wine all day and every day same, but watching your video I'm thinking of getting up alcohol completely Eddie thanks for sharing this video with us ❤
Eddie I don't drink alcohol any more myself due to health issues. I tried non alcohol Heineken it was nice ed . U can get pints or bottles mate . Giv it a go mate
Almost every real man here in the states has stopped drinking Bud Light and all A B products
😂.
I associated traveling with drink myself. But the last time in VN realized that the coffee houses and Tea shops are loaded with young hot women.
Screw the beer bars – I go out for a peach tea and a piece of cheesecake.
Yum yum local talent working there and local talent coming and going
I only ever drink when im in a bar and that is usually once a week at most. During covid, i didnt drink at all for 3 years. Now if i go to a bar and drink, I can only drink 4 max. Have no tolerance anymore. I think Im now also better at nursing the drink over over a longer period of time. Before it was like 3 sculls of the bottle and it was gone.
Hi Ed, I'm a Brit living in California and I've been a fan of yours for quite some time and this latest one (in the UK) was touching! I'm 84 and still drink and travel. Moderation is the key. Keep in touch with yourself and you can't go wrong!
Stronger by the day. One day at a time. Easy does it
I agree travel and staying sober do not go hand in hand especially travel to Thailand. Why go to Thailand especially Pattaya if you don’t drink and you don’t enjoy the company of women a few times ? Just fly to Spain Portugal or Santorini 😂
After spending the last 8 years after my divorce traveling to 19 countries I have to admit there is nothing like your own homes comfort and peace, Travel can get very annoying , tiresome and costly especially when you over do it.
When i drink, i always drink water half way through the night, take milk thistle and sugar free electrolytes, make a massive difference the next day
You looking good Ed!
Looking fresh Ed and as if you’ve lost a bit of timber also? Good for you mate, I think you’ll be able to still travel & not have a drink without any issues.
Your fellow YouTuber Cheap Charlie had alcohol issues as well & managed to spend the last few months in Thailand nightlife areas without having a drink.
6 trips to Thailand all ruined from drinking 7th time lucky stay dry heavy drinking very hazourdous in the heat what a waste.
I don't drink anymore, and my only issue is when I travel, many will question why I don't drink and will even say "cheap charlie". No matter, I feel amazing and fit, and the performance between the sheets is better.
Good for you, Eddy. I'm proud of you. 👍
You've don't really well to kick the booze.👏 I follow cheap charlie a lot also on youtube travelling around Thailand pattaya etc . He's been sober now for 2 years, so it can be done as his problem was probably worse. The trade-in is enjoyment and lack of it being sober, which he commented on regularly it's just not the same. You 2 are quite a good comparison. Both youtubers both had a drink problem, and now both are sober. One is a bit further down the road. My take on it is dump the all or nothing attitude. Make a promise to yourself no alcohol 4 days a week. Pick those days and stick to that. You obviously have willpower. I think you may struggle with the alternatives, particularly when travelling. That's how i navigate around consistently drinking .
Is it not possible to have a drink when you are on your travels and not drink while you are back home?
How about Malaysia?..U can go out in KL or Penang, Langkawi & have plenty of options non alcohol alternatives drinks & women u can meet 😉
Damn Eddy that's inspiring. Good for you, you look much healthier. I quit for 26 months but have been back drinking for almost a year now. I would like to quit again as it's getting old drinking everyday. It's defintely possible to quit. I was an everyday drinker for almost 20 years…drunk every day. I thought it would be impossible for me to quit and I did for over 2 years. Once you stop for a couple months it gets easier. I stopped thinking about it for a long time. The key is to not give in and think you can control it, because you can't once you start again. I'm going to try again. Keep it up buddy.
Alcohol is the only drug that you find yourself apologising to people for abstaining from it. Very inspiring steady ed! Thank you
Get the Checkups done mate its the only way to know how you are going really in the body.
Eddie, if you realize alcohol is similar to the “emperors new clothes” fable. Just a giant manipulation, opiate for the masses conspiracy. If you come to that realization, travel without booze is preferable. There’s no beer in existence, as good as a mango, banana smoothie in Thailand.
Eddie – way to go! I added a few comments to others' posts, but wanted to send one directly to you. I stopped drinking over 20 years ago, when I was 30. Since then I've traveled a lot – over 30 countries, lived in Vietnam for two years where I was co-owner of a restaurant, and lived on Cozumel in Mexico last year. Now living in Las Vegas. I am grateful that I've been sober through it all. I have had some amazing experiences that I know would not have been nearly as great had I been drinking.
I could write pages of advice, but here's one thing that may help you for the here and now, and on your next trip — people don't care if you're drinking or not. Don't let your head get caught up believing other people will think you're a wimp or a lesser person. If anyone around you really thinks that, they're not the kind of person you want around. ANYONE that knows you at all, or cares about you, will be very supportive of your decision and help keep you on your chosen path. Anyone that tries to push alcohol on you or makes fun of you is NOT a friend. Those people need to be removed from your inner circle. I understand the cliques and the culture – I've spent a lot of time in Pattaya, Phuket, Bali, Phu Quoc (Vietnam – where I lived), etc. The drinking culture in the expat community runs deep. Once you feel secure in in your own sobriety, you really won't give a second thought to it – enjoy your water or Coke Lite or whatever. If someone you think is a real friend hassles you about it, pull them aside and tell them you'd appreciate it if they'd support your decision. Let them know this isn't easy for you, but you made this choice and want to stick with it. If they're really a friend, they will be behind you 110% – they'll be there buying you a water or soda, and will help block the rare jackass that comes along and insists on buying you a beer.
I wish you good health and a long and happy life!
When i used to see you in your videos drinking multiple pints of beer just with your lunch, it was awful to see. Its great to see you have made this life affirming choice to leave the booze behind.
On holiday have a beer and look at it as a well earned reward . Then when your back home go back to not drinking . If you think that’s something you can control . Good luck pal 👍👍
You look much healthier Ed …. You also seem to have inspired Peter Thailand Bound to cut back ….
You need to break with the get up at midday, have a pad around & something to eat & then drink the evening away schedule & Pattaya & Islands don’t offer much else for somebody like your self.
Start keeping a journal and become a linguist. At least try to be a linguist. You already a photographer and a video artist. The more endeavours you pursue ,the more alternatives there are to drinking.
I can relate to your struggles.41 years as a merchant seaman I’m no stranger to alcoholism .However it was a lot of fun until it became a sickness.
Hi Eddie. A couple years ago the doctors warned me that my liver enzymes were elevated and I had better control my drinking or stop entirely. I have a very strong family history of alcoholism. My father and multiple family members on his side were alcoholics. So I think the genetic cards are stacked against me. I was also suffering from mental depression which got worse after returning from overseas traveling.
Because of all those factors that I described above I decided I too was an alcoholic and joined AA. That was one of the best decisions of my life! I am now 14 months sober and have never felt healthier mentally and physically. My liver enzymes are normal and my psychiatrist has proclaimed me cured. I attend meetings regularly and I am an active volunteer.
Last winter I spent a few weeks in Thailand, the majority of the time I was enjoying Pattaya. While there I discovered a wonderful chapter of AA and attended many morning meetings. I made a lot of great new friends there and intend to keep them for life!
Let me be clear about one thing. Although I no longer drink alcohol, I still enjoy the company of young ladies of the evening! Actually, I feel that eliminating the alcohol has helped me enjoy sex even more!
The very best of luck to you Eddie. You will be in my prayers.
Eddy, you have been an inspiration. What has separated you from the rest is that you are one of us. If I can speak from the heart please, we loved you rumpey pumpey in the afternoon, how much does a shag really cost etc etc. It will be interesting to see how many of your followers will go with this new sober Eddie and not the one of the lads who loves a nice cold beer which hooked me in to be honest. I do wish you all the best with this no lager life, I hope you can appreciate this was your attraction in the first place. Personally, I will be lashing it up at 60 with a fatty liver and dying maybe younger than I should 🤷♂️. However, I am going to keep having a ball. Good luck to you Steady, I hope you can maintain the interest with soft drinks and culture 😂😆… you have been brilliant up to here ❤
Well done mate, I was a heavy smoker ,and know its not easy ,I have been smoke free for 30 years now , keep it up 🎉
Congratulations Eddy keep up the good work. As far as walking along a hot beach and craving a beer goes, you'd be much better off having a coconut water or Pineapple juice or even water as alcohol is a diuretic and doesn't actually quench your thirst. I think its just the coldness that fools you that it's thirst quenching. The only problem you may have is putting up with drunk people when you are sober(I think you may have touched on that before) 😅
I got tired of binging on Alcohol so now i only drink whilst in the Philippines as its a hot climate.
Have you ever had your liver checked by the NHS or elsewhere? Liver enzymes? Ultrasound? Thanks
Nothing wrong in modernisation..when I'm in Asia Philippines..I never drink alcohol during the day ..but a few beers a night is not harmful ..I only drink beer and nothing else ..no spirits..no wine ..light beer only ..I can't see any harm in that whatsoever
Travelling to Pattaya as a tee-totaller.
You have to be kidding right ?
Can''t think of anything worse.
Great job Eddy. I'm currently trying to kick the demon drink. I've went from drinking heavily 4 or 5 nights a week to drinking moderately 1-2 nights a week. My problem is that I am a binge drinker, when I start I don't stop until I pass out. But I am making progress!
Am trying to cut it out well done
Booze is a mugs game
The price of it is enough for anyone to give it up😉👍
I think cos you werent an Alcho, a raging alcho. When you go away you might learn a bit of moderation being the Key. I smoke when Im away but dont smoke at all when I come back cos I know I can…well…until I can't ofcourse its a dangerous game but once you get to grips with not being on it at home you might just sink a few when your away and no dramas. Whatever way good on you mate.
