A shtreimel (Yiddish: שטרײַמל, plural שטרײַמלעך shtraimlech) is a fur hat worn by many married Haredi Jewish men, particularly (although not exclusively) members of Hasidic Judaism, on Shabbat and Jewish holidays and other festive occasions. In Jerusalem, the shtreimel is also worn by Litvak Jews (non-Hasidim who belong to the original Ashkenazi community of Jerusalem, also known as Perushim). The shtreimel is generally worn only after marriage, except in some Yerushalmi communities, where boys wear it from the age of bar mitzvah.
There is much speculation surrounding the origin of the shtreimel. According to the Encyclopædia Britannica, it is of Tatar origin. Different theories hold that it is of Tatar, Turkish or Russian origin, but it is not possible to establish a clear chronology. Some legends say that the initial reason for adopting the shtreimel was that the czar of the time decreed that the Jews must dress like the Gentiles.[citation needed] The shtreimel is comparable in construction to fur hats historically worn by Central European (Polish) and Eastern European Russian boyar nobility.[citation needed] According to the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, the shtreimel comes from the costume of Polish nobility, the Gentiles

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this “calling” in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become – a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, “glide” over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and “see” the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

My reply was cut by You Tube! There is a fundamental truth that will bind all the tribes of Israel and lead to the rebuilding of the Temple without brick, without mortar. There are those amongst you who are bringing this truth to your people / the people/ the children of God. I will let you look for yourself. Find them. They are on You Tube and they bring a Bible. They bring the Jewish Bible and show the truth. God be with you all
Do you know how ridiculous you look in those stupid fur hats?
Sadly the fox isn’t happy about being used for the hat
Why is he wearing a hat box and long hair on the side like a girl? Why are they bopping their heads up and down like a dippy drinking bird bopper? What good does that do?
Greeting from a Moroccan Muslim
The mad hatter wore a hat, too! But let's not overlook there's a "wall." Men are wearing hats, rocking back and forth, praying in front of a "wall." And the 20th Century has arrive and it's now "important" that the hat isn't a "real" fur hat. Never mind that people are rocking back and forth, wearing faux fur hats, praying in front of a wall, to a God who didn't stop the genocide of "His" people. No… this doesn't look crazy at all! It's sane, really…it's sane. There's nothing coo-coo-for-cocopuffs insane about this.
Roman Catholic Sister Pray Lord for us All , Shalom
Waste of time. Serve Jesus since He is God. Cut your hair like a man.
And I learned history here…thank you!
Sounds like your saying ferrite.
They should use muslims to make hats out of.
kind of a dumb question: are those big hats comfortable?
The guy in the thumbnail is smiling at me… I am uncomfortable.
All of these Hassidic traditions and dress customs go back 300 years at most and have been invented in Eastern Europe small villages and reflect aesthetics and culture of those provincial settlements. I think they can hardly be called Jewish traditions as they have nothing to do with historic traditions of Judaism going back Millennia. Most of the Hassidic tradition, hairstyles, dances, songs and dress are highly undignified, reflecting the low statute in societies and life of subjugation, submission and isolation, imho. Speaking as a Jew, I hope these Hassidic sects will disappear one day.
Become a Christian, Moses law can't save you unless you were a Jew in Old Testament times!
I'm sorry but I have to say this you know I got to be a Karen, but they look like something straight out of Harry Potter with those hats on in his dark black outfits

So you stiling place
On history befor about eat on messages world on people
Whoa, the Christians forced you to wear non kosher animal hats? Were they really that cruel to you guys
question: Why the fur hat?
quick answer: ''This outfit is the result of Christians who forced the Jews in Europe to wear something different. It started as a punishment, but the Jews saw the good side of the story. Now they knew who was a Jew and who was not. They decided to stay with this attire''
To me it's kinda like how some black people take the n-word and turn it as a good thing which i dont get because….if you want to take back the word to make it a powerful positive thing….why only other blacks can call you that? (**sigh**) Human logic doesn't make sense.
They look sick, cunning, crooked and highly intelligent l.
I only see idolatry praying in front of a wall
You didn’t explain well…you were not clear! The narrator is distracted.
I wonder if John Lennon admired their attire?
wearing furr in the 2020s is disgusting
I really like the design of the hat.
