Watch stuff and learn and chill hi whatsup ⚔️👋🧐

Hi everyone! I’m an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through YouTube videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let’s be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!

Having a diverse perspective is crucial to what I want to achieve here so please don’t hold back! I want to learn about all I can! Keep recommending and PLEAESE join my Discord 🙂 ( https://discord.gg/ejxUtD2X )

  1. You like nature? London is 40% public green space and has enough trees that it technically counts as a forest for international land use purposes. One of the reasons I love living here is that I can have the availability of things to do, but can walk a couple of streets over and feel like I’m in a quiet village. Best of both worlds.

  2. I think stockholm should have been on the list. There are Gamla Stan with nice old buildings. In Djurgården you have a lot to do, you are near nature and can go to Skansen and Gröna Lund. Södermalm and Östermalm is nice too. I’m saying this as a Swede.

  3. He did like a "how to travel to 10 nice cities in Europe" video WITH A ROUTE. I guess, this is also probably why places like Athens and Istanbul had no chance to make it into his top 10.
So the title of the video and the order of the places counting them downwards from 10 to 1 seems a bit off for me.
Also I think Europe as a whole region to give travel advises like a tour is by far to big, unless you plan a sabbatical year or so here.
Those proposed ones are also mostly big and huge and crowded cities, you might easily get overwhelmed following his instructions. Also the distances between them, almost everywhere the plane mentioned as travel suggestion… please don't do it like this!

My humble adcice would be: Focus on a region, take trains, ships or rideshare. Stay at least 3-4 days in a smaller city and 4-7 in a bigger one. You'll see much more traveling like this and you'll have a bit more of a deep dive into those places and regions and how they feel. You can easily fill a smaller region with "10 beautiful cities in Europe", too.

-> Central Europe: Take for example Innsbruck, Salzburg, Munich, Regensburg, Nuremberg, Leipzig, Dresden, Breslau, Krakau, Prague, Brno, Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest… oh that 14 already sorry, and there are still more around… 😍
-> Or travel from Oslo via Göteborg, Koberhavn, Lübeck and Hamburg, into the Nederlands via Groningen and finally to Bruges for a more nordic and sea focused environment. If you have time left and you like to have a bit of contrast, Bruxelles and Paris could just be right here. It's just an example, you could go to London instead from there, too… (other way round works as well of course)
-> You can do the same thing in southern Europe, you can travel between Spain (or even Portugal), the French coast and Italy by land and meet enough beautiful cities for your "best ever" top 10 list. Or you take a ship between Spain and Italy and visit Palma de M. and Cagliari on the way…
-> You can make a trip that generally follows a river like the Rhine or Danube: Beautiful cities around everywhere, and remember, also smaller places like Luzern are called cities in Europe.
-> If Russia ever calmes down you can do the Baltic run including beautiful St.Petersburg…

Sooooooooooo many possibilities for a good city trip in Europe, just please don't follow the route in this video 😂

  4. You mentioned Eastern Europe. I have visited most of the major cities across Europe and would add that St Petersburg and Moscow are very impressive, but currently not an option for obvious reasons. I would rate Kiev much higher than many other capital cities… again not an option. For lovers of how Prague and Budapest used to be when there were far fewer tourists, Tbilisi is a wonderful city to visit and I would love to go back there (Georgia being generally regarded as Europe these days).
Furthermore (See Wikipedia article on Global CIties), London (alongside only New York) is regarded as an Alpha++ city and Paris Alpha+. In the words of Samuel Johnson: "Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."

  5. As Vatican City is located within Italy's borders, it is a de facto part of the Schengen Area, and so shares the same visa policy as the 26 Schengen countries (you can move freely between any of this countries without any kind of ID). That part at the center of the Colosseum that we can see is the under maze that contained the cells, armories and cages for animals where the spectacles were prepared (some kind of backstage now), so yes it was covered; in fact it was so well done that it was possible to flood it to make representations of naval combats with real ships.

  6. Saying that London should not be higher than Paris (the bits that aren't cuyrrently burning that is) is an outrage! You should wash your mouth out with soap! Seriously, these kind of ranking are meaningless as it obviously depends on what your interests and tastes are. Mercifully, London was recently placed above Paris in a world survey of cities having the most world-class museums. London is also different in having more green spaces than any other major city in the world.

  7. London is the best city in the world. It used to rule the world. It has far far more than Paris to offer.
It is also a massive size and has just about everything.

  8. Was in Amsterdam last week for a whole day. Went on a canal boat trip which was very nice, but getting about on foot with the thousands of bikes whizzing past in all directions was a pain to be honest, the roads are so congested with them.

  9. Venice is slowly sinking, and plans are being drawn up as to how to tackle this. Funny how we seem to not qualify as being a western european country since Brexit.

  10. The cathedral they showed for the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona isn't in the Gothic Quarter… imo the top cities starts like this: 1. Amsterdam 2. Edinburgh 3. Barcelona 4. London… and I agree with you on Prague (which would probably make my top ten but its pricey and rammed)
