Amsterdam’s Botanic Gardens are one of the oldest in the world. Established in 1638 as a medicinal herb garden, it quickly developed as the traders of the Dutch East India Company brought back many new and exotic plants from their travels.

On this tour I will take you around the gardens, which contain over 6000 different plants. Whilst we won’t see all of them, there will be some interesting and surprising plants to discover. These include a 2,000-year-old cactus and a route containing 24 monumental trees.

I’m not a botanist (thankfully there are a lot of information signs), but I can promise you some wonderful shots of beautiful flowers and plants. So come with me and let’s explore Amsterdam’s Botanic Garden together.

  1. Thank you, Stephan, for sharing all the secret places in Amsterdam. Who would have thought such an incredible variety of tropical plants are growing right in the middle of the city!
This was a surprising and informative tour, and the close-ups of various plants and flowers made it even more special.🦜🌴🌳🌵🦜

  2. such a beautiful place, and you had all sorts of interesting details to share with us, as you always do, Stephan. Highlights for me today were learning about the source of Arabica Coffee, and hearing about the various projects in the city to minimize the number of cars. I know other cities are trying to do that too, but Amsterdam is most likely to be successful because bicycles are already so popular.
