  1. Expats are often retirees or people with passive incomes. Japan and Korea are expensive areas with low English proficiency. While countries like the Philippines and Mexico one can live comfortably on $2000 to $3000. In the Philippines most people have a working understanding of English.

  2. I’m buying a home in Mexico in case the US and China go to war. I’m not Chinese, but once the war starts, we’re ALL going to be “Chinese” (if you know what I’m saying).

  3. Wait…Bahrain is ranked 9th?! GTFO of here. I've been to Bahrain, there is nothing but hot temperatures and high humidity and desert. I would never move there. I can't take this list seriously.

  4. June Lovejoy : photographer / adult filmmaker Holly Randall ("Unfiltered") youtube channel) did interview on Lovejoy, an American who did get work in a very popular niche (global $6-$97 billion dollars industry) entertainment field. For my first two choices to have a holiday/vacation, it would have been either: Canada or Mexico. ( I need to checkout Japan or Okinawa (the Ryukuan Islands). ) my very first (South-East) Asian trip, ever outta the States, was only for 2 weeks: Bangkok, Thailand; then, to checkout Ta Phrom ("the Tomb Raider" temple ruins, made famous by Angelina Jolie) & Angkor Wat, which was cool; in the dusty area of Siem Reap, Cambodia.

  5. expat means to me is someone in their country and the company in it sends someone f their company work purpose. i don't think it's someone who travel to another country to get a job!

  6. Judging by the countries that made the list, it probably boils down to cost of living. The same expats that are living in SE Asia would gladly move to Japan or SK but you'll be subjected to the same inflationary pressures that plague the West. And as a foreigner, it's probably easier to get ahead in SE Asia because Japan and SK are so highly competitive and well educated so it's harder to stand out.

  7. One thing to mention is how much privilege people have over the locals. This is another reason why Japan and South Korea rank so low.

  8. I travel to Canada 🇨🇦 often, Philippines 🇵🇭 less often than Canada. Singapore 🇸🇬 not as often as Philippines.

Mexico 🇲🇽 is not as safe as Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia 🇲🇾, Vietnam 🇻🇳, South Korea 🇰🇷 or Japan 🇯🇵.

I disagree 👎 with this survey. I prefer any of the Asian 🌏 nations over Mexico.

  9. i am wondering Mexico no.1? or is this so called expats Americans exclusive only that's why its number 1 because its near America'. and American's most work/business are their and its near

  10. this list is NOT about which are cool cites to visit. To live in Japan as a non-Japanese citizen is a vastly harder more hassle filled life then living there as a Japanese citizen.

  11. As Asian-American, I am thinking of retiring in Korea, Thailand, and Japan in 10 years. I was just in Korea and Japan a week ago and it was great. With my retirement fund, I will be able to live very comfortably.

  12. I was just in CDMX and was surprised how many asians i saw there. I stayed at the China town in the central part of the city. And in the more upscale west-side part of the city I saw a bunch of Koreans. Even a Korean church was there singing and praying for the city didn't expect to see that in Mexico City lol. It's also a very crowded city. So if you're not used to big cities i wouldn't recommend living there Besides only visiting.

  13. Even I was born in Japan moved and have lived in US well over half of my adult life, going back to Japan to reestablish myself feels like nightmare. Their unspoken resistance to newer and foreign ideas and custom which people who lived there entire their life can't realize they've been dwelling in (similar to the demographical privilege issues in US) and of course the cost of living raise the hurdle higher and higher…
