Palma de Mallorca (Catalan: Palma) is a municipality located in the western Mediterranean, on the island of Majorca, near the eastern coast of Spain, in the autonomous region of Spain, the Balearic Archipelago. The population within the municipal boundaries of Palma de Mallorca (as of 2011 estimate) is 405,318 people. The area of the region is 208.63 km² and the population density is 1.942,76 people / km². Approximately half of the island’s population lives in the urban areas of Palma de Mallorca and its surroundings. With an estimate of 2009, the population of this urbanized metropolitan Palma is 517,285 people and ranks 12th among the urbanized metropolitan regions in Spain.
