Train lines tried to ruin the 12e arrondissement, but it found a way to make it work. Grab a copy of my guide to Paris at https://parisinmypocket.com/ and take a chance to get one of my hand drawn maps of Paris while helping me make better videos at http://patreon.com/jayswanson

The 12th arrondissement of Paris is underrated, in my opinion. For the Coulee Verte alone, it’s worth a visit. Grab dinner in Gare de Lyon, drinks with boxer bros, or take a long stroll along the basin at Arsenal if you’re craving some boats on the water. It’s not a bad place to end up.
My name is Jay Swanson – I’m an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base – at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.

FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Over five years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You’re always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? – I made a “Draw My Life” video that explains a lot here: https://youtu.be/-MrvL37jTKM
Where are you from originally? – Pullman, Washington – a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? – I’ve made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: http://bit.ly/JaysGearList
What do you edit with? – Adobe Premiere – it’s pretty much all I’ve ever used since high school.
Aren’t you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? – Yep. But not too badly – I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? – Because I’ve always wanted to; I feel at home here: https://youtu.be/4Vivf6MqMxQ
Do you speak French? – Oui. https://youtu.be/va1QjaHgij8
Do you make money off YouTube? – Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? – The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $5/mo to help me make better videos: http://patreon.com/jayswanson
I don’t trust this Patreon thing – can I just paypal you? – Here’s my ko-fi if that’s your thing (and coffee is your game): https://ko-fi.com/jayswanson
But I want to send you something tangible! – I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it’s a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. So instead people often drop off or ship things to the Peloton Cafe in Paris for me.
Thanks for watching!

Just wanted to say thanks so much for your content, Jay. Appreciate you living the dream and sharing it with all of us who love the city. Oh yeah, appreciate the continuity of the grey shirts. :0
I was at Le Train Bleu a couple of months ago. The food was meh, but even though i had seen tons of pics and vids, I was still gobsmacked by the grandeur. I hope you go soon! Next time, I'll just order a cocktail, a cheese plate and salad. 🙂
omg I remember how much I used to watch your videos
Interesting to see the outer Arrondissements covered. The recommendations so far have been (chef’s kiss)
1:51 OMG I LOVE THIS COOKIE! The Cookie Monster should not see this at any cost.
4:52 Those are really dangerous and the guides are worth it.
12:04 EXCUSE ME YES I WANT TO GO HERE
Loved the Coulée Verte when we visited a couple months ago! Highly recommend it for anyone interested in urban parks/green spaces
Happy Birthday Jay ❤❤❤
Excellent video. Too short!
We stay in the 11th. We're vegan, so we stay around the corner of VG Patisserie. It's close enough to Le Marais, as well as everything else by metro.
Looking forward to your video.
last one before we’re there
Oh but I love the 12th!
Am getting angry with your last videos. huge portion of arrondissement are completely ignored and having a minute without a mention of your book would be great. Rant finished.
Ground Control Freaks 😅
“Wrecked” by trains?? 😲 Trains are a feature! #railgeek 😉
We stayed just down the street from Gare de Lyon on our recent trip. Thanks to some of your earlier videos, we did walk part of the Coulee Verte.
We did go to Le Train Bleu. We arrived at the station coming back from Avignon so we just walked up and asked them if they had any openings for lunch. They were able to give us a reservation for 7p so we came back that night. If you still want to go, maybe just walk up and ask about that evening. Perhaps you get lucky like we did! Glad we did. I’m not s foodie but the restaurant is gorgeous. We were one table away from their open front windows so it was a very enjoyable meal. Plus it’s in a train station and I was able to see TGVs when we arrived and left! 👍🏻
Hi Jay, Just to let you know: VanMoof is out of business. Thanks for the Vid!
Great vlog! Jay at the end the bartender behind you looked like your doplleganger. Take a look and see what you think.
Thank you, Jay, for another great video. A stroll on La Coulée Verte is on my list with a stop at Rosie after for cocktails and lunch. Question: I bought your guide this past Spring just after the big 2023 update; has it since been updated any further? If so, how does one access it? Thank you.
Hey Lucy! So nice to see your place at the 2:00 mark!
Lead me on, my friend.
Great Vlog as always, we are staying in this area as we speak, I just wanted to thank you on 2 great recommendations, both coffee related, clove coffee shop and inform cafe, both fantastic, thank you
Hope you had a great burfday Jay! 🎉🎉🎉
It’s cool how copper is in most of your videos
