Tokyo was an amazing beautiful and welcoming city, with that trademark serenity (somehow) amid the hustle and bustle. People we met were unfailingly polite and lovely, starting with the two old ladies who helped us find our way from the airport to the city. One of them gave us milk-candy from her purse, patted my arm, and told us about her friend who lived in America….in Charlottesville, of all places!

In our short time there, we were able to see many of Tokyo’s most interesting pockets…from the quaint, winding alleyways of Koenji to the 80s-inflected tech of Akihabara and the loneliness of the futuristic man-made island Odaiba.
