There’s no railway on Jersey (well, not anymore anyway). However it does have an extensive bus network called ‘LibertyBus’ and it was my turn to try out the network!

Come with me as I travel from the capital – St Helier. First east then west, then west again, north and south – all over the place really! I’ll show you the different types of buses, the scenery and of course, what you get for your money. It didn’t always go to plan but I had a great time overall anyway!

As always, many thanks for watching – it’s really appreciated and spurs me on to keep travelling and making these videos. Your support is brilliant!

Cheers for now.

Mark

  1. Great to see our favourite place, Jersey😊. Not sure what you were expecting from the buses but their service is perfectly suited to the size of the island and their road layout and is excellent. Not having a USB port isn't the end of the world! 🤷🏼‍♀️

  2. Great video mate! Seems like I pretty much followed you a few weeks later, but by hire car (I was with my mum – if alone I'd probably have done it by bus too!) Well done for going old school with paper maps and timetable, though my phone network seems to include all roaming within Europe 😉 Thanks!

  3. Oh god my idea of hell, a bus full of school kids!! Lol.. Optare Solo perfect for right narrow roads, unusual with the wheel in front of the driver (and door) as opposed to behind driver (and door) on normal buses. Brilliant little island, went there in the early to mid-80’s (when Bergerac was on tv). Surprised they don’t have electric buses as we have in Inverness, would be perfectly suited for Jersey

  4. As a resident of the island I think you gave a very fair and concise report on our island. Anyone who does not think the island is special really needs to come and visit us.

  5. I never realised St Helier was so…Urban! Jersey used to only have specially small buses (7'6" width and short) – now they obviously have full size double deckers!

  6. Mark my dear, may I offer a suggestion. Having been in broadcasting for decades i can tell you this. Tis better to voice over sections where the background is overwhelming. I could not understand much after you scanned the ticket and sat down. When you listen back as editing before publishing try it on a device not attached to headphones.
I watch on my main telly for example.
As always best wishes for your continued success.

  7. Interesting video and view of the service; I've been to Jersey 3 times in recent years and each time stayed in a different place (Gorey Pier, St Helier and St Aubin). I find the bus service to be absolutely excellent – the island is so small you don't really fancy stuff and USBs – and the cost of replacing a fleet that's doing a grand job suited to the island would be odd. It was lovely to see familiar and favourite places – you were unlucky with the weather – in good summer sunshine a friend and I got off at the same stop as you for Corbiere and then walked to L'etacq stopping for a swim and lunch halfway along St Ouens bay – what a fab day that was – we worked out it was about 12 miles all in. A lovely island, beautiful scenery but since the pandemic, eye-wateringly expensive.

  8. Great travel experience!
I wish I had so much time to visit all the places I've seen in your videos 🤗
Thank you for another great video 🤗

  9. I got a taxi from the airport to Hotel d'Or where I was staying for a meeting. Taxi driver asked if I had been to Jersey before. I said it was my first time. Found out later that he took an extended route! Loved the Island.

  10. As a born and bred Jersey girl , it was funny hearing you pronounce some of our names … it catches everyone out ! St Ouens is pronounced ‘Wons’ lol as for modern buses , we do now have an electric bus.. more to come I think ..if they have anywhere to charge it ! As for usbs …. Your not normally on bus long enough and you would be having to unplug it all the time if you did not have a window seat to let people on and off the seat.. most tourists tend to book a full or half day coach tour with one of the local coach companies .. buses tend to be used for getting from A to B and not an island tour .. depending on how much you use it, the ticket you had was good value as a single cash journey is £2.25 …

  11. Hi Mark how you doing mate? Great video as always well edited and great background music added sure is different seeing you finding your way to the buses and knowing which one to take to explore the whole of Jersey, its good that's there's someone on the desk to help out if your stuck on where to go plus pay for your ticket £8.50 is a ok price for a whole day ticket, sure is an average standard Optare bus indeed those pesky school kids sure annoyed that poor bus driver good thing there was a teacher onboard to tell them off beautiful views of Gorey indeed you didn't look very impressed of that bus journey to Gorey at all due to them naughty school kids, Corbiere light house looks very interesting indeed it is good that people can go inside it, sure was a change to see a Scania double decker instead all the way to L'Etacq that looked very boring indeed a bunch of nothing at all the other passengers looked annoyed too, you sure had a very long walk to Leoville to go back to St Helier once again the last one of the day anyways hope you having a good afternoon Mark and keep up the great content on the channel as always as its so great 👍

  12. I have been to Jersey many, many times but never taken a bus ride but then again it was always work related, very nice video but no mention of Elizabeth castle?!

  13. £8.50 for a day ticket? 10p per square mile …. and on that basis, MUCH better value when the tide is out! 🙂

At first sight, not too much of either JMT or Jersey Eastern Railways left to see. 🥺

  14. Hi Mark, awesome channel , have watched most of your 150 video's in the last couple of weeks & subscribed to your channel…. The Bernina Express video is unforgettable.. looking forward to your next video / adventure… Thank you and " cheers for now ".. 🍷👍😊

  15. Hi mate, not to be rude, mate but had you asked me if you could record I'd have been happy to partake, I'd ask that you remove my image and recording from the film, thanks.
