I made my way to Scotland’s world renowned Isle of Skye. Here, I would spend two nights and immerse myself in all of it’s beauty. I stayed at at airbnb in the town of Portree, which made for a great base for me to explore the island. I got there late at night, and after taking a short walk and flying my drone a bit, I went to bed because I knew I would be getting up early the next morning.
When I got up, I drove north to see Kilt Rock. The parking lot was closed due to construction, which also blocked the observation platform. I knew this ahead of time, so I flew my drone out over the sea and was able to get some great shots of the rock and the entire landscape. From there, I drove south to Lealt Falls, and then on to the Ole Man of Storr car park. This was the #1 thing I wanted to do while on Skye, and the hike was everything I had hoped it would be! I got there early, so going up the trail wasn’t crowded at all. The views from the top were amazing, and something I will never forget. When I hiked back down toward the car park, the number of people hiking up had greatly increased, so I am very glad I decided to do this early in the morning.
When I left the Old Man of Storr, I drove across the middle of the island through the Quiraing, an area known for its dramatic rock formations. I ate lunch in the bay town of Uig, before continuing north to the ruins of Duntulm Castle. From there, I drove south to visit the Fairy Pools. This was beautiful, but there wasn’t as much water as I had hoped, as they were suffering from a drought. My final stop on this very long day was at the far western part of Skye, the Neist Point Lighthouse. I had seen the view from this place in several books, and even on my Amazon Firestick screensaver on my TV, so I knew I had to see it with my own eyes. It did not dissapoint!
The next morning, I packed up my things and checked out of my airbnb. I stopped by the Sligachan Old Bridge before leaving the Isle of Skye to continue north through the Scottish Highlands! Make sure to subscribe to my channel to continue along this adventure with me!
