Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a Japanese sushi chef looks like? Shizuka ventures to Tokyo’s historic Tsukiji Fish Market to find out just that.

Saisho Nobuhiko is a sushi master with over 20 years of experience and the proud owner of Ginza Saisho–a renowned sushi restaurant serving high-quality sushi masterpieces. Shizuka meets Saisho Nobuhiko at Tsukiji Fish Market, where their seafood adventure begins! Saisho-san schools Shizuka on all things seafood before they visit a special uni (sea urchin) vendor that happens to be a friend of his.

Next stop is a kitchenware shop! Our cheerful host, Shizuka, joins Saisho-san who is in need of a new kitchen tool. After they successfully complete their shopping mission, it’s time to head over to Ginza Saisho for a sushi-making lesson. From shaping the rice to placing the fish, Saisho-san teaches Shizuka the delicate art of making sushi before she enjoys her handmade lunch.

  1. How fun! He's a great guest with a lot of skill and knowledge to share with viewers. Definitely shows the skill needed to be top notch sushi chef. Another greatly hosted, produced and edited video.

  2. ❀❀❀ reminded me of the wet markets i used to visit in Singapore eons ago. So glad cameraman got the cooler bag. He deserves it. If team Shizuka opens a Sushi restaurant, i will definitely be there.❀

  3. Wow, Shizuka, you did a great job making sushi and temaki! I would have a hard time trying to make the simplest sushi. Thanks again for the video!

  4. She is a great host and an amazing person. My kids and I actually bumped into her while filming this episode and she took her precious time to say hi and took a few pictures too. She is so kind and real. This was one of the highlight from our trip to Japan. Keep up the great work. Lots of love from Canada!❀

  5. I've been on Shizuka's case, telling her that she needs to do more workouts specially after having so many Japanese meals, but it seems like my messages got lost in the fitness realm! And now, carrying a bag of frozen and most likely smelly fish has become a formidable challenge for her! πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™€πŸŸπŸ πŸ‘πŸ˜„

  6. I love Saisho san's vibes. So cheerful and a fun personality. Haven't seen many sushi chefs with his disposition. What a great guy!

    Another great video from JBF!

  7. What a fun time. And the chef was so nice and happy, and he really helped you learn with a smile. How wonderful! Sushi, soooooooo yummy!

  8. I can't stand her personality. It's so fake it makes what should be interesting viewing painful to watch. You don't have to be 100% upbeat and fake perky in every shot.

  9. I think most people could create the sushi, but it takes an expert to chose the best tasting fish for the sushi. Only experience and talent can do that.

  10. There's so much information here for people who are sushi novices. Please make a separate presentation about glamorous tuna at some point in the future.

  11. This channel is so dangerous because this restaurant is now on my to do list! Saisho-sensei looks be a wonderful character and an excellent chef πŸ˜ƒ

  12. Shizuka + Japan By Food always the best combination πŸ˜‰πŸ‘… this channel and video need more views!! The best food channel and Japan culture at the same time.

  13. great tour, looks like so much fun, 9:00 I want one of those hachimaki's, loved the story of one of Saisho's favorite knives, and Shizuka did a great job slipping behind the counter and making the Sushi

  14. Shizuka is so shiny person. You transmit your emotions on the other side of the screen, so we can live the experience with you. The content of video is also amazing, thank you Japan by food for your nice job! Share my passion about the food and hope to see you when I will come to Japan. πŸ€—

  15. The owner seems to have a good personality, and the sushi is probably delicious. However, I think the inside of the restaurant is a little cluttered.

  16. Visited Saisho-san before the pandemic and it was a great experience. He's such a great host, and the food he made was absolutely amazing. Really enjoyed the full omakase and sake set.

  17. Also kohada is known as gizzard shad in the west, only honestly for what reason the kohada nigiri i had in tokyo was vastly superior to the one i ate im the usa as a comparison. Theyre pretty common here jn north American but yeah for whatever reason it just tasted gross lol

  18. 23:13 thank you for another incredible video! Unfortunately I cannot eat anything at this time due to radiation treatments for cancer in my throat, but watching you enjoy different delicacies are my way of enjoying the foods vicariously through you! I love your precious smiles and laughter in all your work. Thank you for bringing a little bit of sunshine half way around the world….!🌹
