As we toured the NC500 we became aware that campervans and motorhomes were not particularly welcomed by some of the locals in the Highlands of Scotland. In this video, we respond to various comments we received here on Youtube about us visiting the area in a motorhome and look into the history and problems of the North Coast 500 route. Are we really not welcome?

I live and work in the highlands and you are more than welcome, only thing that annoys me is the campervans that do 40mph and don't pull over. As for stopping in laybys overnight it is allowed now, they used to have signs that said " No overnight camping" but they were told to be taken down a couple of years ago. Hope you are not put off by these tales and enjoy our lovely scenery when you can.
Hi Guy's,
It was lovely to see you staying positive after the comments, we think the few spoil it for many, so everyone is tarred with the same brush.
Loving Andy's new moves π , sorry hope its getting better π.
I'm guessing Claire is not a whisky fan then, loved Andys take on the guy from the fast show.
Hope this has not changed your minds on what to do in the future π€
Think I need to record Claires laugh as a ring tone π.
Looking forward to the next vlog.
Paul and Joanne π π
Wouldn't bother with NC500 or Scotland it's too much hassle. I wild camp all over Europe no problems and for all those moaning locals shame they aren't commenting on the dirty rubbish throwers who are mainly locals pitching up with McDonald's, BBQs etc then leave them by motorhomes so we get the blame. Scotland is a π© hole so they can shove it.
What a lovely way and response to answer the negative comments, and thank you for sharing this in your video. The NC500 is in our plans for next year and we will take all this into consideration when planning our stops. Graham (Barnsley)
Keep on doing what you're doing guys, wherever you're doing it. Spending your money wherever you visit, is only a good thing for the local economy and the wider community. Im sure the positives outweigh any negatives by a long way for the places you visited. Keep those vlogs coming…
You arenβt the only one, I canβt abide Whiskey, makes me laugh when you see folk in films order a whiskey and wince when they have a sip, Andyβs walk is like mine with my hip π’ but if I ever get it sorted I intend to do the nc500
Being honest, after a few short months βfreedom campingβ in both Scotland and England youβre do see some crazy things from other βfreedom campersβ that give everyone a bad name. Even on some social media platforms there are people who boast what they do and donβt care about the consequences. All we can do is leave nothing only footprints and take nothing only photos. Be nice and respectful to everyone we come across and enjoy what we can.
Claire, Jan loves Whisky, to me it tastes like muddy water—– not a fan
Good evening i would not let the negative comment put you offππ i looked through all the comments and could not find anyone called "Karen" i wonder where she goes for her holidays??? without using the transport network wether rail, car or motorhome maybe she travels by bicycle?β€β€β€
Great vlog again with the comedic twist.
I also follow Will's Whereabouts he also make me laugh I call him the modern Norman Wisdom
Really enjoyed the Roly Birkin impression, and the skimming stone at the end was pure class. With regards to negative comments, you will never avoid them, people will go out of their way to have a moan about people like yourselves just enjoying the beautiful countryside.
You have dealt with those comments with grace and patience.
I hope that calf is healing but please seek some medical advice when you get home.
Give it a few years,by then it will be renamed the NC 5 Miles only…Signs will say..Do not move from motorhome campsite until you have got the next booked, then when the music starts to play you have 20mins only to get to the next campsite lol…stopping forbidden and all motorhome wing mirrors are to have a boxing glove over them .
Another brilliant video , the Mr soft walk and waterproofs is a vibe ππ definitely people who spoil it but I'm sure it's a minority. Some people will just never care glad the negatively has not put you off scotland π΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώπ
It is always the few that tend to ruin things for everyone else. We hope that the residents of the NC500 realise that most people are respectful and are also adding to the economy.
Nicely done you two π π π
Iβm from the Tarn too I really am enjoying your videos well done guys si thi later π
Very thoughtful video guys and covered a number of issues we, who like to visit places in our chosen mode of transport, can get behind. Donβt be put off by keyboard warriors that like to attack others from their perceived moral high ground. Scotland is not alone in being painted as unwelcoming by these warriors who welcome your money, just not you. Those of us that have visited the EU and beyond can see the effort that has gone into encouraging visitors, especially to out of the way towns and villages, in an effort to encourage folk to visit and invest in the local economy. We have some way to go to get away from the small village mentality of some. The UK is a beautiful country with warm and welcoming people (in the main), however, like those that spoil it for us who like to travel, there are those that spoil it for those we like to travel to meet – βyou have enemies? Good. That means you have stood up for something in your lifeβ – Winston Churchill
Scotland is a nice place ut seriously for businesses that rely on tourism they don't do themselves any favours
What a superb, balanced & professional video, fabulous !!
As Micky Flanagan says, limp drag lol. Get better soon Andy ππ top tip always unravel you mains cable
Hypocrisy, just like Cornwall, some Highlands people want your money but they don't want you. These individuals do not own the area, just like we don't own ours. It is a free country and we can go anywhere we want within the law. Let them moan all they like, then just ignore them !
Remind them about the Barnet formula and if we weren't subsidising them from England, they probably couldn't live there themselves without the infrastructure and social payments we have paid for.
Great vlog…….as your channel grows you'll get more trolls unfortunately….keep em coming
Great video. Nearly pissed my pants laughing at the walk, having torn my calf some years ago, i feel your pain. (Although it took me 2 weeks to be able to walk again, so maybe a case of man flu and its just a strain in your case π). X
P.s Claires a legend x
Sounds like itβs the minority thatβs spoiling it for everyone sadly π₯Ί loved Andyβs outro ;3 oh i miss the days of kicking a ball about and calling car once an hour when someone came through! Now i want to go play a game of kerby!
Your walking like buggy bear from starsky and hutch . not trying to offend
Love itβ€. Our missis has the same facial expression when sips whiskyπ€£π€£β€οΈπ
Absolutely love Scotland, looking forward to going soon . If you loved the North of Scotland, try the outer Hebrides ( Harris and Barra our favourites ) they are amazing places . Regarding the negative comments about motorhomes etc as pure usual a small minority of idiots spoil things for the people who travel with respect and consider others . We live not far from the Lake District and since covid there has been some right bleeps π€¬leaving serious amounts of rubbish and parking in the most stupid dangerous places . Most people are great and respect others and leave no trace . Rant over , keep on travelling and doing vlogs , had a rough couple of years and you pair ( and Pablo ) make me laugh out loud , youβre bloody bonkers and itβs great x
Brilliant video again π
On a lighter note, the calf muscle shuffle reminds me of John Travolta strutting his stuff in Saturday Night Fever. You'd only need to do the hair combing bit…
I think that after Covid most people want to get out and experience life. Maybe tourist spots are busier. You make me laugh guys. Visiting Scotland in September.
As always this was brilliant. It was entertaining, informative, and addressed the issue so well.
We know that you love Wales and were delighted that you were practicing your Welsh after the whisky. You are welcome in Wales anytime! π You pair make such a good presenting teamπ All the best Elaine, Mike, Samuel and Thomas πππ¬
Just WOW! your youtube videos just get stronger everytime.. 12 months from now you will be bigger than kinginit I'm sure of it.. Keep em coming love your lightheartedness
You will get the bad comments from all parts of the UK, not just the NC500. Owning a big white box with a dirty diesel is a perfect target for some people, probably with some good reasons and some which you highlighted. We try to be whiter than white (even with a blue van) but still fall upon the van haters. I thought you were both getting legless in the pub but it turned out to just be Andy ππ Hope you feel better soon ! πππ»π Trev
Its really sad that these people who push for more laws and restrictions do not realise they are pushing for less freedom for not just campers but for everyone, themselves included. One day they might fancy a motorhome and guess what, theres no where for them to park up.
I personally do not like campsites and will do anything to avoid staying in them. They are not for me, I am a arrive late leave early kind of traveller and I make no mess at all! If there are campers who are making a mess of things, well thats a business opportunity for someone.
Great video , I agree that if people are responsible they will continue to be welcome not just on the NC500 but everywhere else, there is, and always will be some people who disrespect their environment and spoil it for the majority but letβs hope we can educate them to be more respectful and mindful.
I love Andyβs new walking gait , so funny ( I know it must be painful but he is making the best of it )especially his attempt at running over the road. Enjoy the rest of your trip xx
Hi Guys. Take nothing but photos. Leave nothing but footprints. Like you, when I'm travelling I always act as if I am an ambassador for my country or county. Unfortunately as ever the few spoil it for the majority. As for the negative comments that is social media for you. You''ll just have to suck it up. Andy's Dad Dancing is improving! Like you Claire, I'll stick to the Madri. TOP vlog you two, fair and informative. ππ€©β£
Great video as usual , I hope you're enjoying making them as much as I am watching them π π
Great video we are also from Barnsley πnice to see other Barnsley couples on tour πππ
Great video your 2 π
We stayed in the car park of roam west itβs a Britstop and like you spent money in the pub, weβve had the odd hooting of horns when parked up in lay-bys but in general felt most welcome in Scotland and will be returning in October
LOCALS NEED TO UNDERSTAND ,THE NC500 BELONGS TO US ALL NOT JUST THEM ππππ
Love this. We're going in 2 weeks and was worried about how we would be received. We are on sites for the whole trip. Feel much more reassured after watching this. You guys are funny too!! π
Brilliant, just brilliant.
Normal civilized people are welcome… unfortunately there is self righteous ferral scum that destroy the country side & totally disrespect the people that live in the areas….if everyone was as respectful as yourselves across the country we camper lovers could feel at ease with our adventures.. great post..π
