Places to Visit in Bhutan
Punakha – Located at the junction of Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu River, Punakha is a prominent cultural hub where you can enjoy nature at its best. On the world tourism map, this quaint little town is majorly famous for Punakha Dzong, which is the second-largest dzong in Bhutan. Adventurers should try crossing the Punakha suspension bridge, which swings even in the gentlest breeze. Seek blessings at the Chimi Lhakhang Monastery, which is sacred to Lama Drukpa Kunley. Discover a whole new world as you explore various other attractions in Punakha like Dochula Pass, Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, etc.
Paro – With the only international airport in Bhutan, Paro is the gateway to Bhutan. From the vibrant Paro Dzong, Ugyen Pelri Palace, and Kyichu Lhakhang to the cliff-hanging Paro Taktsang, Paro features some of the best architecture in Bhutan. Go on a day trip to Chele La Pass and see surreal views of surrounding mountains and valleys. Paro also possesses a reputation of being an adventurer’s hub as several trekking trails are available here. Do include a visit to Paro Dzongdrakha, Kyichu Lhakhang, and Zuri Dzong when traveling to Paro.
Thimphu – The capital city of Bhutan, Thimphu is a mini-metropolis with stunning views of mountains, striking hillsides, and traditional wooden houses. One of the prominent places to visit in Thimphu is the Buddha Dordenma Statue, which is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. Don’t forget to include an excursion to Motithang Takin Preserve in your Bhutan tour package to see Takin, the national animal of Bhutan. Walk around the impressive National Memorial Chorten and marvel at some exquisite paintings. Thimphu is also one of the few places where you can experience the nightlife of Bhutan.
Haa Valley – Around 114 kilometres away from Thimphu, Haa Valley, located at an altitude of 3988 meters, connects three prominent districts of Bhutan – Paro, Chhukha, and Samtse. The valley is also popular for its outdoor activities, which also makes it quite known amongst the adventurer
Phobjikha Valley – An enormous bowl-shaped glacial valley flanking Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, Phobjikha captures a lot of attention for its population of black-necked cranes that are found here during the winter season. The valley is also home to Muntjacs (barking deer), Sambars, Wild Boars, Marmots, Himalayan Black Bears, Serows, Red Foxes, and Leopards. The place seems quiet and calm, but it comes alive during festivals like the Crane Festival, and Tsechu Festival.
