-북유럽 발트 해 연안에 위치한 공화국. 라트비아, 벨로루시, 러시아, 폴란드와 국경을 접하고 있으며, 14~16세기에 동유럽 전역을 지배했던 제국이었으나, 이후 폴란드-리투아니아 연방의 일부가 되었다가 1944년 소련의 위성국이 되었고, 1990년 3월에 독립했다.
1991년 10월 14일 한국과 정식으로 외교관계를 수립했으며, 북한과는 1991년 9월 26일 에수교를 맺었다. 주요 협정으로 투자 상호 증진 및 보호 협정(1993),사증면제 협정(2002),양국간 운전면허 인정 및 교환협정(2015) 등이 있다.
2015년 기준 리투아니아의 대한 수입액은 7천 300만 달러이며 대한 수출액은 2억 6,400만달러이다.
○ 대성당
– 빌니우스 중심광장에 빌니우스 대성당(Vilnius Cathedral)과 종탑이 있다.
대성당은 신고전주의 양식으로 건축되었는데 그리스 신전을 닮았다.
현재의 성당은 18세기말에 건축되었는데 1950년 소련지배시에는 문을 닫았으며 처음에는 창고로,나중에는 화랑과 콘서트로 사용되었으며,1989년 2월 5일부터 본래의 성당으로 되돌아왔으며, 종탑은 높이가 75m이다.
