I arrived in Geveva Switzerland and was blown away by the costs here. This is probably one of the most expensive countries I have ever been to. Is it Inflation or has it always been this way?

My name is Brian but everyone calls me Greeny. I retired in January of 2020 after working 30 years in Law Enforcement. I wanted to retire young enough to be able to do some of the things I always dreamed about! I knew I wanted to travel extensively and retire somewhere warm and exotic I sampled a ton of places in the Caribbean, Panama, Colombia, Turkey but set my sights on Thailand.
I started making videos as a hobby but now it is more like a passion.

You got spoiled by Thailand. Europe is boring, and Europeans are rude. all european land marks are about how one country conqurred its neighbors and took their money and women.
You thought Thailand is cheap. Go check out its neighboring country Malaysia. I'm from there but now I'm living in US. The exchange rate used to be 1:2.5 but now it is as high as 1:4.6. Imagine paying an average US rent of USD$1,600. Take that and go to its capital Kuala Lumpur and see what you can get for $7,360 Malaysian Ringgit. You'll live like a king. Want to live near the beach, go to a cheaper city like Penang Island. You won't be disappointed with their famous cuisine and many speak English as well. One big thing that I dont like, its hot and humid weather. If you can tolerate hot and humid, this is for you.
You should probably stay in Germany and then take the train over there for one or two days and then come back to Germany. It’s cheaper.
trying to get your ex-wife out of your system?
Greeny, this is a toughie. You are travelling around some of the top tourist spots in the world at the absolute top of the season where prices are often way more than they probably would be in say October. And Switzerland is probably one of the most expensive countries in the world, or maybe it is the most expensive. A Swiss Franc is now worth over $1. There was a time 30 years ago when $1 bought 3 Swiss Francs. Even 20 years ago it was 2. Now, a $ is worth less than a franc. So you are having the holiday of a lifetime, and in probably the most expensive country anywhere in the most expensive season….. summer! Head over the border to France, and it will be cheaper. I think you have to be philosophical and enjoy it. Some sweet memories. Switzerlands currency is disconnected from reality. If you live and work there, so are their salaries!
Greeny how much do you make on youtube. Just had a setback. Want to make sure youtube will pay me enough to cover my bills.
Thanks g have a great day 🙏🍻🤙🇦🇺🇺🇸
The people in Suites you saw standing around are people working in offices and were out during their lunch break or just after-work socializing before going home 😉
The cost of living is relative to income. Average Wages in Switzerland increased to 6712 CHF/Month ($7,602.22 USD/Month or 267,000 THB/Month) in 2022.
Travelled in Switzerland many years ago and had to leave 2 weeks earlier than planned due to the exorbitant costs. Beautiful scenery, everything works and is on time but never again, it's a money pit.
Looks really civilized, I guess you just have to pay the price for such a organized society.
Looks like it would become boring in a short while unless you had roots and family there.
Nice to visit during the Thailand rainy season though.
Greeny, just a quick note on high cost. About 6 years ago my wife and I were in Paris, the waiter brought us the famous "Tourist" menu.
I did a quick calculation from Euro to USD and a hamburger and coke would have been about $70.00 USD each.
Drank our water and told him to find another sucker and left.
Found a nice fair priced dinner on a side street.
Greeny I’m loving your travels. Camera tip – slow down your panning movement so your viewers don’t get motion sick.
living in CA next to a tourist trap city, I know just how insane the prices are. I don't need to go to EU to get the same experience. I am sticking to thailand when the time is right.
I miss your chick… 🙁
Your Michigan Roots show,… lol. Love it
My good friend was born and raised there, lives there now but can't afford to retire there
You may want to avoid singapore and many other countries which adopted the
= expensive and not-worth half the amount
= lousy-experience due to the millennials training their service staff using manuals and psychology for dogs
= expect tourist to give them leeway by using stories but they go out of their way to piss-off tourists to spend-more (women psychology manual)
= spend more gets more insults until – why didn't you bring your own army.?
= millennials and their ill-breds(gen-Z) got women-and-religions to provide their idealutopia experience of stupids-for-stupids
It is fun watching undeserved suffering their-own policies. Fairness and by-merit was what worked. Now they are stucked into that mental-regression of karens. They(culprits) have to run and hide and pretend to be businessmen… youtube is the window(zoological gardens) and the internet never forgets.
Who goes to Switzerland to see Geneva? You go for the amazing mountains, waterfalls, nature views in the Alpes…
Austria is actually pretty cheap comparing to Swiss. I have been in Vienna last year summer, prices where cheaper about 30% than Tel Aviv and cheaper than Germany…
Going there again in mid sept this month, to the Alpes, Zaltzburg. Beautiful lakes, mountains etc amazing views
I would check out montreux,it's nearby and very famous and beautiful
It is a little known fact, but the reasons the Nazi's did not invade Switzerland was because when they found out the prices, they decided they couldn't afford it! 🤣
Switzerland is sterile couldn’t pay me to visit that country.
Nice video Greeny! Yes, I had the same sticker shocks when I was at various places in Switzerland approx 5 years ago. I’m sure even worse now. Bloody expensive! A bit less in Austria where you are heading. I hope you are stopping in Salzburg. Stunning! Birthplace of Mozart. Not to be missed. If you want to travel to Vienna it’s approximately 2:30 hour train ride from Salzburg. Continue having fun, with your inside pockets hanging out!
Those chem trails are next level , there was even a plane doing one live whilst you were talking, but being an ex PI I presume you noticed them all?
Really enjoying your content from your European trip, Greeny…
You mentioned Ryan Air… you may already be aware of the following points, but others might not be.
Here are my major tips for travelling Ryan Air. I hope they save people unnecessary time, money, and aggravation:
1. Find out EXACTLY which airport you are heading to BEFORE your flight, as you don't always end up in the city you are flying to (or depart from the city that it says on the ticket). Sometimes it can be 2+ hours away. If they put brackets after the city, that's a general indication that you're going to be far away from the actual city you intend to go to. From personal experience, my flight was for 'Frankfurt (Hahn)'. I just saw 'Frankfurt'… and had to take an early morning coach to get to the airport (yes, that was my Ryan Air 'rookie mistake'). I'd have been better off staying in Lichtenstein, and travelling from there to Hahn Airport, than travelling there from Frankfurt!
2. Don't buy their 'lottery', it's a scam, and is nigh-on impossible to win (or, if you're feeling lucky, your odds would probably be better buying the EuroMillions lottery… and the prize for that is far greater)!
3. If onboard the 'plane, put ear-plugs in, and don a blindfold – unless you don't mind being constantly hustled by the air crew to part with your hard-earned coin for a load of crap you don't want (food, golf equipment, hotels, etc.), or to 'donate' to their 'charities'.
4. Be aware that Ryan Air WILL fight tooth-and-nail to deny any lawful request for compensation (requests they are obliged to provide under EU law for delayed flights etc.). They'll try (and probably succeed) to grind you down, until you give in. Most people just want to enjoy what's left of their holiday.
5. Read their fine-print and follow their rules regarding baggage sizes and the printing of tickets, etc – don't expect ANY leniency from them what-so-ever for excess baggage and breaches to their rules, as they will be relentless in charging you for anything they can.
Ryan Air are a dirt-cheap airline. I'd still use them… just be educated. If my above points saves just one person from paying Ryan Air just one penny more than their air-fare, or saves one person time, then it will have been worth typing up. 👍
Hopefully you will do video of Malta and Gozo. If you to to McDonald's in Switzerland it will tell you how expensive. Zurich and Geneva are finance type town. You have to drive in Switzerland to appreciate coubtry
If you to Sweden, visit the Vasaa museum
