  1. Those mossles were most likely cought in the Westerschelde Zeeland the Netherlands. Waterzooi was probebly the most and best Belgium thing to choose after chocolate. Its probebly personal preference but as a Dutch tourist I did not like Brussels, Gent or Brugge were so much more beautiful to me. (And a long drive for you 2 I understand) for a next country/city might I suggest Luxemburg? And plz do a oktoberfest special that stuff works great for the views of your channel.

  2. Nice video as always. Wrong beer, Stella Artois is pretty mediocre. There are many better beers, eg. Duvel, Chimais, Leffe, Orval (my favorite but very special), Westmalle, …. . Sehr seltsam, der Deutsche isst mit den Fingern und die Amerikanerin mit dem Besteck 😉

  3. For the mussels, we often use 1 shell as kind of a tweezer thing to get the other mussels out of their shell and eat them like that. So no fork used then

  4. Looks like a delicious place to visit. Thank you for sharing. Were there any other things to do that is special to Brussels besides eating? Though I do remember picking up chocolate at the airport for layovers – yum!!

  5. If you like Brussels you are going to love Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp, Dinant, Liege,

brussels is not really like the rest of the country, not flemish and more so but mostly not waloon either, it was initially a dutch speaking city, the frenchifcation and it's bilingual status is still a point of contestation

  6. It is awlays fun to see an outside perspective on stuff that is common or normal to you. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the stay and culinairy discovery.

Yes, the term "french fries" is very misleading and has to do with WW1 where the elite and higher ranking officers would speak french.
'Belgian fries' would be a more accurate and proper term imo.

Concerning the wafflestory or fries joint, these friendly looking people in the video ate at.. well, these are tourist points, targetted at tourists 🙂 I'll keep it at that.

Be aware of fries joints that deliver the fries too fast with longer wait-lines, it might mean that the fries are not fried properly.

'Brasserie' is a french word and indeed means 'brewery', but typically we see it as a place where one can both eat and drink, either fulls meals or pasteries or snacks or just only drinks. Not like a bar, not like a restaurant, but something in between.

That was not Waterzooi. What you had there was Vol-au-vent with the typical pastery.
(Waterzooi is more like a soup-meal dish. water- = water, -zooi = mess => a bunch of ingredients/tuff thrown into water simply speaking)

"Les moules" are indeed cooked in the pot, together with the greens (which should cook a little before hand in the pot). The mussels are most likely not from the Belgian coast, most are imported from Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, which is just across the border with the Netherlands. The dish itself is Belgian though.

  7. Pro tip from a Brusseleir: Use a mussel shell (like a clamp) to fish out and eat your mussels. Also, do not eat the ones that didn't open up. They were dead before being cooked. And Stella Artois is the best Belgian beer… if you're not in Belgium 🙂

  8. As a Belgian it breaks my heart that you ate that savory waffel. This is only for tourists. We eat it only with sugar or fresh whipped cream. Than we go to the mussels. No! We do not dip our fries into the water! We like crunchy fries. As for the eating of the water… well… i like it to, so sometimes i do that😁. Pls come back to Belgium and try real local food! Ballekes met krieken. Zwarte pens met appelmoes, rijstpap met safraan. Hope to se your video's about Belgium soon!😢

  9. If no one’s said it yet, some of the best Liège waffles in Brussels come from those random yellow vans around the city. Very reasonably priced as well. 🧇

Brussels waffles are traaaash and just vessels for toppings. Liège waffles can stand on their own!

  10. 🤣 you blurred the elephant’s penis. Here in Belgium and especially in the Netherlands we’re not that prudish.

When you eat mussels, you use an empty pair of shells as a pair of tweezers to pick the other mussels out of their shells.

You should visit Maastricht in the province of Limburg and try many beers from that province and of course vlaai, Limburgs zoarvleisj (sour meat).

  11. The best waffles I've ever had in my life in Brussels were sold from these yellow-brown VW Bulli vans parked at every street corner…You should have gone there (if these still exist)! That place you went to (12 Euros for a waffle??) looks like a typical overhyped hipster tourist trap…(i.e. making simple food overly complicated and thus pricey)
