Check out my blog posts about being black in the Balkans & being black in Serbia:

Being black in Eastern Europe by country:

I love the Balkans! All black people interested in South Eastern Europe / Balkans travel should come! Here’s my tourist experience visiting there. I film myself walking in different towns of the Balkans / Southeast Europe and you can see that everybody is nice and friendly–they just stare a lot! That’s all! So being black in Serbia, being black in Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro–wherever… it is not a problem at all!! So don’t be worried about people being racist or anything. There is no racism. People are happy to have you here, everything is safe, everyone wants to help you and they will just be staring at you and occasionally wanting a selfie with you! Haha! The Balkans isn’t dangerous at all and please do not worry about that. I understand that I am a black American girl, so my experience might be slightly different than a person who is a black man. But all black men that I have met here have had a great experience.

The countries considered to be the Balkans vary from who you talk to. Many consider the countries of former Yugoslavia to be the Balkans. These countries include Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Slovenia and Kosovo. Albania is also part of the Balkans, although it was not a part of former Yugoslavia. Bulgaria is often considered one of the countries as well, but also was not apart of FY. Some also consider Turkey, Romania and Greece–I personally do not think of those countries as the Balkans though. However, you may have a similar experience in these countries in terms of culture, food, and at times language, and thus, this video includes the Balkans & South East Europe.

The experience I have had here is the experience I have had in other Eastern Europe countries and even Russia. I am not sure what are all the countries of Eastern Europe, but I think many would consider them to be Moldova, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Latvia, Belarus and Estonia. So whether you are in the Balkans, the Baltic region, or any other Slavic based country with Slav settlers, I think this video can be enlightening for you 🙂
