The pudding has a small plastic thing on the bottom that you break to release the vacuum suction of the pudding.

I found that only drug stores sell drugs (medicine) but conbini don't necessarily sell drugs. I found out the hard way in Shinjuku a couple years ago. It is a bit difficult to navigate Japan knowing only a couple words.
