In one of the many lush valleys of the Hunsrück region rises the mighty residential tower of Balduinseck. It was named after its builder, archbishop Balduin of Trier. He built this magnificent tower as a forward bastion against his nearby enemies and to administer his domain. Though it is a ruin these days there is still plenty to see in this castle. It was never destroyed by war and was seemingly spared by the local population as well, giving us quite a substantial ruin to visit today. The tower is still four storeys high, though there used to be five. Many fireplaces decorated and warmed the rooms. Large windows flooded light into the building giving it an airy feeling. We’ve also brought our favourite flyer with us: Orca FPV. With his help we’ll take you all the way to the top of the tower to see what remains hidden. You won’t want to miss this! Thanks so much for joining us on this four castle trip in Germany, next week we return to Alsace in France!

  1. OH! My score is ten, so much of it still remains with some great architectural details. Today I am thankful that boring history leaves good remnants of past buildings.

  3. That's a very impressive tower and must have been quite a sight in its day. Nice to have the courtyard mostly intact as well. A very defined living space of antiquity. Nine fireplaces must have kept the place warm! Love the great drone work! Very nice video!
