Hellfire Pass on the Death Railway
Hellfire Pass was a part of the infamous Thai-Burma railway. It was hewn through a large rocky spur on the Thai side.
To complete the project in record time, the Japanese army forced the Allied prisoners of war and conscripted Asian civilians to work around the clock.
On a daily basis, the workers had to suffer physical assault and humiliation meted out by their captors.
Over 400 people died in the process of cutting.
The cutting was notoriously known as Hellfire Pass.
