  1. Great video Paul. When was this filmed? We moved away last year and the last time we had snow like was about 5 years ago!

  2. Hi Iain, I really enjoyed your 'Tour' around my birthplace in Drayton Gardens in 1943! Many happy memories in my youth, playing Cricket on the 'Green', using those Trees as Wickets!! The Corner Shop next to the "Hairdressers"? on the Green was the local Butcher, "Winships" & interestingly, it was the halfway point in the Marathon Race between Windsor & Chiswick, held annually. The Hairdressers used to be the local 'Chippy'. To the left of 'Rumbles Bakery' on the Green was a small Shop called "West's" which used to sell fresh vegetables. Further down the road on the same side of the road was a shop called 'Cash's', which sold 'general items' not aware to me in my infancy.
The 'Allyway' rhrough to the 'Closes' brought back many happy memories!! That was my Cycle Route to Heathrow as a Planespotter in the 50's!! That diagonal Path apexed on the Path from St. Martins Church to the Church in Harmondsworth & I used to cycle through open fields, now known as the 'Wise Lane Estate' If you need any further information on West Drayton, I'll be happy to assist. Incidentally, the "Gatehouse" was the Badge on my Blazer when I attended the Primary School, almost opposite the 'Six Bells' & close to the Library. Happy days!!!

  3. Thank you Iain for a great video. We lived in Swan Road until I was 5 and then moved to East Road. We moved to the Midlands when I was 12, but have fond memories of The Green and going "up the Closes" with my Grandad. Is the school the one on Cherry Lane? Happy memories

  4. A Cherry Lane classmate recommended this to me and I loved it! Such memories and all of them happy ones. Born and bred in West Drayton, my first home was my grandmother's in St Martins Rd and when I was about a year old, we moved to Blackthorn Ave where my sister was born a couple of years later. The medical centre was once the WI Hall, venue for many a dancing concert performed by the JayCee School of Dancing of which my sister and I were enthusiastic members, Cash Stores and Rumbles opposite The Green were two shops where our mother bought groceries and treats – bridge rolls and iced buns for tea every Saturday, Winship's on the corner, the Gatehouse that used to be the home of the Makins' and St Martins church where our parents were married. There were regular walks across The Closes to visit our grandmother, aunt, uncle and cousins and I can even remember when the paths were lined with elms. Thanks for this, Iain and yes, a film about the story would be terrific!

  8. You should be on the BBC, it would definitely brighten it up. I used to live in Yiewsley, Otterfield Road from 2000 to 2018. Can't believe you didn't give a shout out to Go Gings and Woody's. When People used to ask me where I lived, I use to say, "the armpit of the world. Keep the videos coming Iain. A summer one round Yiewsley would be good.
