Take a stroll with me around some of the Netherlands (& Belgium) most delightful parks and gardens in my weekly tour series. Every Sunday I will take you to a different location, for a beautiful and calming evening tour.

The Neo-Gothic Keukenhof Castle, situated near Lisse, was built during the Dutch Golden Age in 1641 and has extensive gardens, modelled in the English landscape style. Perhaps more famous for its tulip festival, Keukenhof Castle also showcases other flowers throughout the year within its extensive grounds and opulent gardens.

Between August and October, Keukenhof Castle exhibits over 100 different varieties of dahlia during its Dahlia Days festival, and it is that festival we will explore together. Seen as a symbol of opulence and wealth, dahlias come in tens of thousands of different shapes, sizes and colours. The Dahlia Festival features over a hundred of these different varieties and during this tour, we will explore as many as we can.

We will feast our eyes on an exquisite collection of the most colourful flowers in the Netherlands, carefully planted to complement the hue of its neighbour (the Keukenhof gardens) and in an assortment of different shapes and sizes. These beautiful summer blooms range in colour from the darkest reds and purples through shades of pink, orange, yellow, and white.

In April and May, we visited the famous Keukenhof gardens to tiptoe through the millions of tulips planted there every year.
Now we will visit again, only this time, we will dance amongst the dahlias… (btw I can’t dance 😉 )

  1. The show garden at the Tulperij was the perfect choice for this year's final view of the dahlias. So many colours and varieties – and a sunflower bonus. A beautiful and soothing tour. Thank you.
