One week in Japan. Here’s a highlight of our favourite things to do in Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara (大阪、京都、奈良)! Other than the typical attractions, there are tons of hidden gems throughout these places.

Osaka, 大阪
0:17 – Dotonbori Street
Lined with colourful neon signs and delectable scents fighting for your attention, it’s the place to be for amazing and affordable street food.
0:26 – Osaka Castle
Osaka Jo is one of the must-see places for it’s history, picturesque scenery and it’s 360° view of the Osaka skyline from the observation deck at the top.
0:35 – Owl Family Cafe
Cute owl cafe in the heart of Osaka.
0:41 – Rockstar Reptile Cafe
Another animal cafe for those who prefer the cold-blooded kind.
1:03 – Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum
Run through the history of how instant noodles came about and make your own cup noodles.
1:16 – Tuna Auction at Osaka Central Fish Market
Intense session of Tuna Auctioning at 4:15am. Similar to Tsukiji Market in Tokyo but smaller.
2:55 – Harukoma Sushi
Most value for money sushi on our trip. Thick sushi slices. Ranges from 150-350yen for a plate!

Kyoto, 京都
1:31 – Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
One of the most popular sights in Kyoto. The beauty of the bamboo forest is favoured by many tourists all over the world.
1:55 – Nishiki Food Market
Nishiki Market holds literally all kinds of food you can think of: tsukemono (Japanese pickles), fresh tofu, kyo-yasai (Kyoto vegetables), wagashi (Japanese sweets), yakitori, tea, and fresh fish and shellfish.
2:07 – Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine
The famous never ending rows of red tori gates are probably the most iconic sight in Kyoto.
2:21 – Kimono Rental @ Yumeyakata
Exploring the streets of Kyoto in a Kimono for the best pictures.
2:32 – Philosopher’s Path
The 2km long Philosopher’s Path is a beautiful stone path lushed with greenery and decorated with cherry blossom trees, making it a highly popular hanami spot.

Nara, 奈良
2:36 – Nara Deer Park
Visit the deers that roam the streets and parks of Nara. Buy some deer biscuits and see them bow to you!
2:47 – Todai-ji Temple
Tōdaiji is a huge wooden temple which was once part of the powerful Seven Great Temples and currently houses the world’s largest bronze Buddha statue.
