Dracula’s Castle, Peles Castle and Brasov, Romania

Dracula’s Castle

Bran Castle, better known as Dracula’s Castle, was built in 1388 at the top of a cliff, giving it a dramatic setting. The castle served as a checkpoint between Wallachia and Transylvania, playing a strategic defence role.

Bram Stoker’s character, Count Dracula of Transylvania is often confused with Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), all adding to the legend of the castle and making a scary place to visit.

The small town next to Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) has taken full advantage of the legend and tourists, with street stalls selling fun and tacky Dracula merch.
