Join us on a heartwarming Christmas adventure as we explored the enchanting cities of Budapest and Bratislava in Eastern Europe. Our family’s decision to shift our focus from material gifts to unforgettable experiences led us to create beautiful memories in these two historic cities.
In Christmas 2019, we embarked on a road trip from Stuttgart, Germany, to Bratislava, Slovakia, where we found a charming AirBnB just outside the old city. Our journey kicked off with a visit to Aqua World, just outside Budapest, Hungary. It was our special Christmas gift to the kids, a day filled with water slides, pool splashes, and relaxation at the Aqua World resort. www.aquaworldresort.hu
In Bratislava, our AirBnB outside the old town provided the perfect home base for our exploration. Despite battling a touch of illness (in hindsight, we pondered if it was COVID-19), we embarked on a delightful adventure. Our first day led us to an indoor play park within a mall, where the kids had a blast. On Christmas Eve, we strolled through the charming Old City, relishing in its beauty and indulging in delicious food.
Our adventure in Budapest included a two-day exploration of this stunning city. On the first day, we started with a shuttle to Heroes’ Square and secured a 3-day BigBus Hop-on/Hop-off tour package. This fantastic tour allowed us to hop on and off at our leisure, exploring iconic landmarks, enjoying a shuttle to the Castle, and cruising on the majestic Danube River. The highlight was taking the evening cruise at 16:30, which treated us to a breathtaking view of Budapest illuminated by city lights.
The Christmas morning surprise was our visit to Aqua World in Budapest, a water wonderland that delighted young and old alike. It’s a memory that will forever be etched in our hearts.
