Every November, the festival of Saint Martin is celebrated in Western Europe. The festival commemorates a benevolent act by Martin of Tours, and also marks the coming of winter.
On this tour, myself and Anna will join the illuminated Saint Martin’s parade in Utrecht. Together we will explore the history of this festival and the traditions that go along with it.
The theme of the festival is lights, and there will be giant illuminated sculptures moving around the city. The parade also includes street performers and choirs, who will entertain the crowds throughout the evening.
The city of Utrecht is beautiful at night, but on this tour it will be extra special. So join Anna Levina and myself as we explore the Illuminated Parade of Saint Martin.

Such a joyful event with noisy parades on the street and calmer ones on the canals at the same time. Everywhere lanterns and lights and music music music. There was just so much to see. Stephan's experience with showing parades really came into its own, and it was so good to see Anna exuberantly joining in with it all (as well as providing a good chunk of the history behind it.). A really memorable tour in a beautiful Dutch city.
Thank you for taking us to the festival. Its experiences like this make me miss living in Europe. I’m looking forward to seeing what adventures you have planned for future Fridays.
