One of my absolute favourite places to visit when I stay in Villefranche sur Mer is the perched hilltop village of Eze. This beautiful village dates back to the middle ages and clings impressively to the mountainside above the Mediterranean Sea, between St Jean Cap Ferrat and Monaco.

Eze is a small medieval village located in the southeast of France, near the border with Italy. It is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and is known for its stunning views, narrow cobblestone streets, and charming architecture.

The village is home to several historic buildings, including the Château de la Chèvre d’Or, a 5-star hotel housed in a 14th-century castle, and the Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption church, which dates back to the 12th century.

Eze is also known for its artisanal shops, which sell handmade pottery, jewelry, and other souvenirs. The village has a strong tradition of perfumery, and visitors can explore several perfume shops and museums that showcase the art of perfume making.

One of the most popular attractions in Eze is the Jardin Exotique d’Eze, a botanical garden that is home to a wide variety of plants and flowers from around the world. The garden is located on a cliff overlooking the sea, providing stunning views of the coastline and the surrounding hills.

Overall, Eze is a charming and picturesque village that offers visitors a glimpse into medieval France and a chance to experience the natural beauty of the French Riviera. It is a popular destination for tourists and is often featured in travel guides and magazines.
