We settle into our sailing passage on our Outremer catamaran, AWEN, who is taking good care of us. We share the systems, our Orca plan, and what it’s like to take a shower during sell.

This is a special PASSAGE SERIES featuring our DAILY VLOG that we are posting (almost) realtime, thanks to (our NEW) Starlink. Our goal is to take a little of the mystery out of a long passage.

⚓ Join us as we learn what it takes to circumnavigate successfully and make the transition to liveaboard cruising.

🆓Our sailing channel is currently AD-FREE but there are other ways you can support our Outremer 52 project. 👍🏻 Like, subscribe, share our YouTube videos or check out our blog, podcast or social pages below.

Hello! We are Holly and Stephane 🇺🇸🇫🇷

We have made the transition from full-time software professionals from the SF Bay Area to liveaboard sailing explorers who always keep one eye on the weather and our hearts in a song. Our goal is to complete a circumnavigation and we recently transitioned to a performance catamaran and are madly in love with our Outremer 52. We are working with Outremer in France (with the help of Google translate) to launch our boat project and start our journey as sailing vagabonds. While it’s not a race or speedtest, we are doing our first Bluewater crossing this year and we are excited to see AWEN stretch her legs and dance on the water. Join us as we share what we’re learning living without Amazon, (but with Starlink), and attempt this new life of travel and adventure on the ocean. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve our YouTube vlogging skills. Our goal isn’t to make our life a movie, it’s to give back to what others have shared with us, which is why we don’t monetize our channel.

  1. It blows my mind that Orcas attacking sailboats appears to be a phenomenon to that area only. Why did they start doing that there and why is it continuing? It’s a crazy nature mystery for sure!

  2. you guys need to get a cameraman or get some workshops on how to shoot it, could nt whact the last 2 vlogs because of the head spin.

Other than that good vibes and some husbund and wife drama, lol just joking, loving the boat and charting navigation simuluation software, please do share more, didnt know it could give you a sail plan voaw, please share more on that. Btw the boat squeaks the hole time because its new I geuss.

  4. Great explanation by Jean Marc about steering the boat with 2 engines. Moitessier explained how to steer with the sails. He was on a monohull though.

  5. Hi guys, loving your videos, regards the electronic charts, you need to research the difference between vector and raster charts. Raster charts are old paper overlays and not scaler able. Cheers. PeteW

  6. Stephane. Safety is a habit. You should wear the PFD on deck every time so you get to point where you don’t even think about it, you just put it on. I know you’re confident in your ability but it’s the freakish occurrences that you prepare for. Imagine trying to float in the water as the boat sails into the distance at 10 knots and nobody knows you’ve fallen overboard and death is a probability. If you’re still not convinced, do it for Holly. Give her peace of mind. She wants you to wear the life jacket because she cares about you.

  7. Fascinating videos, perfect blend of tech, tactics and personal take on things. Tune out the idiots complaining. Sail on and best of luck for no orcas!

  8. Hi guys, Stefan you’re Wife loves you, and if you fall overboard without a lifejacket, you are history they will not know where you or when you fell off , Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🧑🏾‍🦽

  9. Thanks again, 3/3 way to go!
I vote yes to pfd on deck. For what it's worth:)
I vote no to orca as Jean Marc calls it "encounters".
I vote Holly for "way to go award" with the "up to no good" close encounter with the dingy/skiff. No doubt that was sketch city.
I vote more cookies for Stephane! We love the smile he can't avoid when sweets tooth kicks in:)

  10. Holly – Stefan is being typically male – keep giving him attitude about wearing a lifejacket. Because we mostly sailed as a couple our rule on our 42 foot catamaran when we left harbour was as soon as you leave the cabin you wear a lifejacket and if you leave the cockpit you wear a safety harness and you clip it on. Day and night. I notice most cruisers are reluctant to follow these sorts of rules but it is a waste of money having these items onboard if you only use them when you think its going to be rough outside.

My preference is to stay onboard.

  11. Nice channel boys and nice idea your daily vlog. We’re entering the straight today and then to La Graciosa in the Canary Islands. Hope we can meet in the route, would be nice to greet you. Fair winds boys!!!!

  12. Thank you for screen shot of the B&G info. Great screen. It has quite a lot.
I was sailing a Rapido 40 last Friday and we could not get the same B&G instrument working right , the rotating mast messed up the ‘aws , tws so I could not sail on the instruments!
Have you heard if having the props turning under power distracts the Orca?
    Cheers Warren

  13. Thank’s Holly and Stéphane, we don’t miss a single épisode. It’s all very interesting, keep on sharing !
