Elected one of the most beautiful villages in France, Gordes is a medieval town perched in a rock in the Vaucluse mounts. This hilltop village has houses and buildings made of white stone which seem to have roots into the cliffs of the mountain. Strolling around the town feels like navigating through an ancient citadel, the castle being the highlight of the journey. Built since the 11th century, the castle was slowly remodelled and features a unique combination of a stronghold-like North facade and the Italian-Renaissance-inspired South facade. Gordes’ underground also hides a gem: semi-troglodyte cellars where archaeological remains give a hint of life in the Middle Ages with silos, cisterns and even an olive oil mill. From medieval times till now, the architecture was preserved but the town became a fancy haven with many luxury restaurants and hotel. Join us to explore this charming historical Provençal village.

  1. What a curse. Tourists flood in from April to September and the rest of the year shops close and shopkeepers disaappear to warmer climes to spend the money they made during the 'season'. This means that the village is dead for anyone who chose to make Gordes their home. So travellers and tourists, think about this when you visit, the village may be pretty but it's no more alive than Disneyland.
